I can't watch it anymore. - November 7th 2011, 08:34 PM

It seems as if my dad is trying to blame my mom for every little thing. Almost everyday he gets mad at her for something that is stupid and unreasonable on why he has to raise his voice. With me working all the time and barely being how is my release from hearing this but when I am home, its hard to listen to and my brother and sister and I do not know what can happen. I mean, I see how much it upsets each one of them and with me becoming more social with them our relationship has become closer but its hard to see my mom get yelled at. I mean I love my dad but he can be harsh with his words sometimes. I just dont know what to do. I am trying to show my brother and sister that relationships can be healthy to give them hope. I just wish I knew how to handle this better.

In a way I can relate to that. My father is a little bit the same way but he not only yells at my mother, but at all of us. It is kind of like walking on eggshells and just hoping an "explosion" won't occur. Maybe you should just talk to your brother and sister and see how they feel and maybe come up with a plan together. Also, keep in mind that you don't need to be away from the family all of the time. I know that can be tempting but it is really hard on the other siblings. I would know because my brother is in college and my sister is graduating next year. She is never home now so there is no one to go to. I cannot go to my mom. So make sure that you are there for your siblings because it can be really hard to face it alone.

I was in a similar situation growing up. I think it would be really beneficial to talk to a counselor at school. He/she can give you more advice on how to handle the situation; as it's a very difficult situation to be in.

Also, try talking to your parents about how you feel. Tell them that this is really impacting you and your siblings in a negative way. Don't "blame" them, just tell them in a straight, direct tone that you want to talk to them. They will think that you're more mature that way, and listen to you better. If you are too afraid to confront your dad about this, try talking to your mom about it.

Hope this helps!!
