What sweets can vegetarians eat? - June 20th 2012, 06:49 PM

Hey guys,

I'm going vegetarian from July and I want to know what sweets vegetarians can and cannot eat. I know they don't eat anything with gelatin in them, but I need suggestions on what kinds of sweets vegetarians CAN eat.

Anybody got any ideas?

way to go! I've tried a LOT of times to try and be a vegetarian but I guess, I haven't got any willpower

well, you can eat jelly beans, chocolate, cupcakes, chocolate pudding if you think egg is a vegetarian item, you can eat cakes, creme brule, brownies.

from where I come, there are a LOT of vegetable sweets but I guess you won't be knowing any of them..

Hey Lex, not going to lie I really wanted to answer this (partially so I have a list of my own to reference haha) but I didn't honestly know, so I took to trusty old Google! Haha, anyway clicky this link, it'll give you a whole list of vegan (yes I know it's more strict than vegetarian but hey it's a start haha) safe candy, sweets and snacks. It also tells what foods and ingredients in foods to avoid at the bottom as well as alternatives to it. Obviously you can determine what you as a vegetarian are and are not willing to eat and separate the more extreme vegan restrictions from your personal preference as a vegetarian. Also, I will warn you now, reading over how the certain ingredients that most vegans and vegetarians avoid, are made, can possibly seriously make you want to puke, it's pretty gross, so if you get sick easy, I suggest just taking their word for it and not reading about what it's made of, how it's gotten, or why it is not consumed by most if not all vegans and vegetarians.

[EDIT]:Or even better there's this link to a whole bunch of different foods, not just the snack stuff.

I tend to just eat chocolate or biscuit-based sweets :P Jelly Belly gourmet jelly beans are really tasty and vegetarian, but they are a little on the pricey side =/

This might be a little off topic, but if you have the Lance crackers where you are I have to warn you that they were HORRIBLE at least to me. My mom ended up eating them

Swedish fish are still fine! Most chocolate is fine. Most jelly beans are fine. You just usually have to check the package for gelatin, that tends to be the sneaky one in sweets.
