What foods does your family make for the holidays? - December 21st 2013, 08:30 AM

What food does your family do for the winter holidays? I know a lot of families do turkeys, but my family never did this as we always feel that we just had turkey for Thanksgiving. My family usually cooks ham. Sometimes, we do a "Mexican feast" for Christmas, with chili relleños and tamales. My mom also sometimes makes special food for the winter solstice.

What about you?

Mexican food sounds good!!
Usually, it's different for my family. Last year, we had Thanksgiving-type of food but I think this year, we are cooking fried rice and some type of vegetable dish along with Christmas cookies for desert.

Hm, we sometimes do turkey for Christmas, other times it's ham. Definitely ham for New Years. We do baked macaroni, and some other good stuff! Oh, and we make our Christmas fudge, too.

Breakfast is always a Bacon sandwich

Christmas dinner in our house was Turkey for a while but the last few years we have had a big joint of pork because the price of Turkey was stupid.

This year we have pork and a small Turkey as there is going to be 6 of us instead of 4. To go with it we have roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, carrot and swede mash and brussel sprouts, all covered in gravy

We have a Christmas Eve meal which normally is like spaghetti, pot roast, or pizza.

On Christmas itself my family has ham but I don't eat ham so I have a cornish hen. There are potatoes, various veggies like corn, peas, carrots, or beans. Pineapples. Rolls. They also have things like green bean casserole or cole slaw but I don't eat either of those things.

Sparkling apple cider is a must.

We don't have a Christmas dinner . That's okay though because we just snack on desserts all day. Cookies and brownies and pie. That kind of stuff .

My mom's side of the family includes chicken ordered from Pizza Ranch, potatoes, corn, hot fruit salad, ham, and Oreos

My great aunt's Christmas includes little smokey's and lots of cheeses and sausages. My other great aunt's Christmas is a lot of soups, like cheddar broccoli and chicken noodle, and this really amazing sherbet fruit punch, and these little smokey's wrapped in bacon

Finally, my big Christmas includes Ham and Turkey, Chicken Gumbo, Corn, Beans, Potatoes, Stuffing, raspberry pretzel stuff, orange jello, rolls and cinnamon rolls, fruit salad, lots of weird salads, apple pie and like a billion sugar cookies. I know I'm forgetting something.....hm...

Each year varies depending on the condition. This year though, my mum cooked fried tempe, white rice, veggies, and good ol' homemade shrimp paste chilli sauce (or sambal terasi as Indonesian people call it)

We have the usual Christmas dinner. Sometimes my dad will make a trifle and some jelly but this year they were lazy and bought a trifle from the supermarket instead. We also used to cook ham and have a bit of party food but now there isn't many of us, we've stopped because it's just a waste so we just have warm bread rolls with turkey instead.

Nothing too fancy, nothing we traditionally make, pretty boring haha.

Typically, we make turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, lima beans, mashed potatoes, and apple pie. This year, my boyfriend also made roast. For Thanksgiving, my sister also made spaghetti and meatballs.

Typically for my family, there's ham, deviled eggs, salad, mashed potatoes, bread rolls, green beans, and pumpkin pie.

My family are a hungry bunch so it could be anything. Roast beef, lamb or roast oinkles. Shepherds pie, bacon roll, or pasta which can be pretty boring unless it's homemade and the sauce has to be good. Really for seasonal holidays anything goes and for desserts, either fresh fruit and cheeses, or some yummy trifle concoction. But I have to be quick or it's gone.

But when we go on holiday, it's always a cruise so we grab whatever takes our fancy when onboard.
