Most used spices/herbs? -
August 12th 2018, 12:06 PM
Everyone uses spices these days, we add them to our dishes to make the flavours pop! What are your most used spices and herbs?
Mine are dried oregano (hence my username), dried basil, cayenne pepper, garlic, pink salt (there's actually a difference between normal salt and pink salt), black pepper, cinnamon and mixed herbs. I also love to use fresh chillies, coriander and parsley!

I like using pepper in various dishes I make and on sandwiches. I use Himalayan salt when I am cooking pasta, however, I add it to some meals like on meats, fish, or steamed brussel sprouts.
My favorite fresh herb is cilantro, when I have it on hand it goes in homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, or wraps. I love the taste and I have eaten it on its own many times.
Other spices or herbs I use are steak spices for pork or beef, cinnamon in smoothies, soups, homemade rice pudding, or oatmeal.
When I cook my meals I usually stick with spices that I enjoy and stray away from putting too much in as I generally like plain foods.

I deinitely use a lot of garlic, as well as oregano. I like cooking things like curries though, so I use a lot of paprika, garam masala, ginger and chillies, as well as cumin and corriander.

Definitely garlic and parsley, and cinnamon if baking.

There's a local spice that I use very often, but I don't want to say what it is due to it being fairly specific to my state. Aside from that I most frequently use garlic/onion/chili/curry powder and black/cayenne pepper.
I rarely add salt to anything and I buy low sodium or sodium free when I can. I'm salty as heck person, but I don't really care for salty food.

Mine's usually those jars that are labelled 'Mixed herbs'. Plus I tend to use another labelled, 'Pasta mix'. I can't entirely remember all of what it contains though I used it a lot because it had chilli in it. I think others are rosemary, thyme, basil, parsley, mint and chives.
