Haha, funny question marks.
SO, I was vegetarian for about nine months during my sophomore year in high school. My parents did not like me doing it, and it caused a lot of chaos in my family. So, I stopped at the end of my sophomore year. I would like to go back, and throughout the rest of my years in highschool, I would often pick at my meatful food because, to be honest, I really don't like meat. I'm wondering if I should: a. tell my parents I just won't eat meat, even if it causes problems with them (they both believe it is unhealthy to your diet, they don't like it when I come in the kitchen because I "get in the way", and they won't cook around it) b. secretly do so c. just wait til I leave for college (June-Julyish) d. other ideas? So yeah. How did other people do it? Now, I'm just picking at my meat food when I have to, and being vegetarian whenever I have the choice like out of the house. I would like to stop eating meat, it's disgusting. |

I suggest you either tell your parents that your vegetarian and to deal with it and that your old enough to make your own decisions and just plain refuse to eat meat. Or just wait till you go to college if you can and you don't want family problems. Because I dont see how you can secretely be a vegetarian if you eat with your parents alot.

I would just tell them that I'm vegetarian, you can get your essential nutrients from other sources besides meat so I don't really understand why they would think that it's unhealthy. If they still have problems with it then I would suggest waiting for college.

Hey there.
I'd personally be honest and just tell them. At the end of they day, whether they like it or not you're 18 and you can make your own decisions about what you eat. Perhaps try and make things better by looking for alternatives to eat? Jessie'Lou ![]() Three little birds sat on my window, and they told me I don't need to worry. I would either just tell them or wait until you leave for college. It might also help to show them research/literature that shows that it isn't unhealthy as long as you eat a balanced diet.

Personally i would do what YOU want. Like Jessie said, your 18, and old enough to make your own decisions. If being a vegetarian is something that is important to you i would say go for it.
Good luck! [:

If I were you, I'd go with option a. You're old enough to make your own choices, and they should respect that. However, I know that preparing vegetarian meals can prove to be a bit of a hassle to people who aren't used to it, or aren't supportive of it. That said, if you do tell your parents, you should try and make it as easy as you can on them. Maybe provide them with some easy recipes they can make for you, or even offer to do some of your own cooking? And if they think it's an unhealthy diet, you could try and prove them wrong. There are plenty of articles, shows, and other things like that which praise the vegetarian lifestyle, and many that point out the benefits of not eating meat. As long as you make sure you get all your essential nutrients and all that other good stuff, you should be okay.
Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us - champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world is as it should be, to show it what it can be. |
