Drinks that help wake a person up - September 13th 2011, 04:56 PM

I'm a full-time college student & I have a test like every other day. Lately, I've been extremely tired & I'm just trying to find a drink that will help me stay up. I do get enough hours of sleep, it's just I have a crazy schedule. Any suggestions? I know there's coffee, but I've never really liked the taste. There is a Starbucks I can go to as well if there are other drinks there.

There's fruit flavoured energy drinks that you could try but if you do decide to do this then I wouldn't recommend doing it long term since they can really mess up your body.

Apples are also known to be good for waking you up and tea does have caffeine in it too so if you don't like coffee then perhaps try that instead

Drinking a cold glass of water always does it for me. Also I know they're not a drink, but I have heard that apples wake you up more than a cup of coffee does..

Starbucks is really nice with coffee for those who don't like the bold taste. They dump in loads of milk and sugar and syrups so it's more like a treat. This option can get quite pricey in the long run so unless you have a bit of a budget for coffee, I would suggest something else like making it for yourself at home or buying lots of nice tea you enjoy.

Plain green tea(leaves)
Takes a while to get used to the taste but the energy is very noticeable.
Haven't had time to make it the past week or so and I've been sooo tired

Cold water can help wake you up without the jittery affects of coffee. Also, adding in some milk/half-and-half into a coffee cup, then mixing in a tablespoon or two of brown sugar, stir well, then add in the coffee...can make it taste similar to starbucks drinks. Also, adding in cinnamon sugar, chocolate syrup, caramel, or some regular sugar can also make it taste better and not cost as much as Starbucks.

An apple is supposed to give you more than coffee, as someone else said. Otherwise, more sleep if possible. Best of luck

How long does it take for you to prepare tea?

A little while
Takes time to boil the water and then once you pour the water on the leaves have to settle.
Plus the waiting for the water to cool down

Roughly 5 minutes for water to boil, unless you do it in the microwave then its about 1min 30seconds.
Usually 1-6minutes, depending on the leaves.
Then to cool the water down enough to drink, add ice cubes or put the drink in the freezer for 1 minute.

So it can take maybe 10minutes sometimes. This is all just reference for the user lol.
I forgot all about tea, but there are some types that are characteristic to coffee affects, but doesn't taste like it nor have the jittery affect. Here are a few I know of, and this site is wonderful. We have some stores near me and...really, this is the best coffee I've had. You can mix and match the teas to add flavor. Such as a chocolate-pineapple if you so desire :P
Mix and match, look around the site if tea interests you.

Everyone lovesss Starbucks, but the few coffee drinks I've gotten there tasted horrible to me. The only drink I get there is a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino. Haha, any specific drinks there you suggest?

Would store-bought green tea have the same effect?

Store bought green tea has the same effects, but green tea leaves or brewing the actual herbs yourself make it healthier. Store bought has certain additives in it and sugars.

Most store bought ones will need to steep about 3 minutes, then drink. Adding honey is a wonderful way to sweeten it up healthier than sugar.

Haha I was talking about Lipton Green Tea, which comes in a bottle like bottled water.

Lipton Green Tea might not be as concentrated as regular tea leaves :P
Also green tea has numerous health benefits
What i do is i go to NYC every once in a while to Ten Ren Tea, which is a Chinese style tea shop, and i buy a huge amount of tea enough to last a while.
