Are you roasting it?

In a restaurant the recipe would be 1 serving instead of 4.

Re: How to cook rump steak - February 12th 2012, 02:29 PM

I can't get the link above to load up properly so I might be repeating but whatever.

Whenever I cook steak I season the streak with salt and pepper and lightly coat it with oil. Heat up a frying pan or griddle pan till it's very hot, it should smoke a bit but that depends on the pan (don't put any oil in your pan). Place your steaks into the frying pan as spaced apart as you can but ensuring they're both over heat. Then cook it for as long as it appropriate depending if you want it rare/medium rare/medium etc. Once it's cooked leave the steak for a couple of minutes, it allows all the juices to flow back into the meat making it more flavorsome.

Here's the cooking times that I rend to stick to for a 2/3cm steak. These times are for each side of the steak...
Blue: 1 minute
Rare: 1 1/2 minutes
Medium Rare: 2 minutes
Medium: 2 1/2 minutes
Well done: 3 minutes

Just ensure your pan is nice and hot! (:
