My best friends gone.... - March 20th 2014, 01:21 PM

I am grieving over a friend. He was 19 and was a soldier. He committed suicide about 2 weeks ago. I don't understand why he took his life. I know that he had just returned from Iraq but why.

No one will ever know why he took his life.
You have the right to grieve and be upset and cry. Just remember he wouldn't want you to be said forever.

Hey, there.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. I'm in the Army National Guard, though I have never been deployed. Unfortunately I know several people who have been deployed in a combat zone (i.e., war; battle) and have come back and committed suicide. In most cases, this is due to the lack of help, support, understanding, and love from others, along with PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder). PTSD is a very threatening, negative, and horrific disorder that anyone can have through tragic events (i.e., terrorist attacks, war, natural disasters, car accidents, etc), though you typically see it with public servants (i.e., soldiers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, emts, dispatchers, etc). If you'd like to learn more about PTSD, you can search "Military PTSD" on Google.

Again, I'm truly sorry for your loss, and I will keep you and all those effected by this event in my thoughts.

Best wishes,
Chris

I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...
