World Records... - June 26th 2012, 12:29 PM

Is there a world record for the world's fastest writer? That being handwriter. How do you write faster? I can go fast if I want to but in exams, speed is the hardest part.

You thought Gonzales was speedy LOL. I am feeling the need for speed .

But believe that there is much more good in it than bad.
All you have to do is look hard enough,
And what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may in fact be the first steps of a journey.”

Wiki article on "Words per minute"
Wiki article on "Penmanship"

According to Wikipedia, the average human handwrites at approximately 31 wpm.
I would assume that many university students handwrite in the realms of 40 - 65wpm out of necessity, whilst people with less motor control would be 20wpm or less.

It is important to note that with handwriting, legibility is a huge factor - if you can handwrite at 50wpm, but nobody aside from you can actually read it, then that doesn't count.

As for your idea, I think you should do a few time-trials at home. You'd need to measure your speed writing off the top of your head, copying down a dictation (that is, when somebody reads to you and you write exactly what they say), writing something memorised, and copying a piece of writing such as a page of a book.
You will need to adjust for errors. Mistakes LOWER your final count, I'm not sure by what percentage though.

I would assume, based on the wiki, that your highest scores would come from writing something memorised, and copying something in front of you.
You would time yourself across an excerpt of say, 300 - 800 words, then using your word count and your time, work out how many wpm you're getting down.

If your score is over 50 across the board, then it might be time to to visit this website.

Either way, I'm interested in your results, so let me know.

According to Wiki:

"The average human being hand-writes at 31 words per minute for memorized text and 22 words per minute while copying.[3]
Using stenography (shorthand) methods, this rate increases greatly. Handwriting speeds of up to 282 wpm have been achieved in shorthand competitions.[15]"
