Question Shades of Grey trilogy? - July 9th 2012, 10:32 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Has anyone read the Shades of Grey trilogy?
I got the books over the weekend but I haven't started reading it yet.
Is it any good? I've been told that it is and those that have read it have a 'hard time putting the book down'.

Yeah I've read all 3.
I found that they were hard to put down, I read all 3 in a week.
They're okay, a LOT of sex scenes. Take those out and you'd barely have a story, not that there's one really anyway.
For me I just wanted to see why Mr Grey was so messed up rather than what happened between him and Ana.
Goodness knows what would happen if it was made into a film... It'd be X rated.

Read the first book when it was called Master of the Universe. It was pretty good for Bella/Edward fanfiction.

I'm ashamed for all fanfic writers everywhere that we are forced to share our world with a money-grubbing person like the author who hit replace all and sold her twilight fanfiction.

My mom is reading this right now But I'll probably borrow the series when she's done.

I've read all 3, and I read them all in about a week.
In my opinion, they're alright. I wouldn't say that any of the books my favorite.
I kept reading just because I wanted to know why everyone started going crazy for them.
& like Hannah said, there is a lot of sex scenes. After a while, I just started to briefly skim the page and skip them.
I think it really depends on your taste in books. I know some people who think they're absolutely terrible and are badly written. But others who think the series is fantastic.

I'm the same, I read it when Icy posted it on ffic. But I really disagree, I'm proud of her for being able to covert a fan fiction into a really successful series. Yeah its not the best written literature ever and it's not going to overtake Austen or the Brontes anytime soon but I'm glad it was successful?

However, even though I really enjoyed the books. I disagree to an extent with the way they portray BDSM and D/S relationships. My girlfriend and I have a D/S relationship and the negative connotations that these books seem to have popularised really p*ss me off! I'm a strong, independent woman with a mind of my own yet I choose to give up some of my independence in the bedroom... that's right I CHOOSE to. Gr. /rant

But yeah, I like the books! I just dislike people... *antisocial*:no sweat:

I read them in about a week, maybe less. I really enjoyed them, mainly because you gradually find out why Christian is the way he is. I found it hard to put it down once I really got into them, but the first book was a bit of a long start. It took ages to get to anything gripping.
They were good though, and a few of my friends are reading them now and they seem to be liking them too.

They were some of the worst written books I've ever read. It was more of a struggle to NOT put them down.

I'm not even going to bother as I've heard it's just erotic twilight and seeing as people have said there is a lot of sex scenes, most of which I imagine are straight, I'll steer clear. I like my books to only have a little bit of sex unless I'm reading erotica.

I haven't read them and I probably won't bother. From what I've heard, it's a truly terrible representation of S&M and I'd probably get angry with it for giving the wrong impression.

I'm with you all the way on this one. I've read reviews of the books and while it's labelled BDSM, it sounds like it's about an abusive relationship in which the protagonist has little to no choice in the matter. And that's not what BDSM is about - it's supposed to be consensual, a choice. It sounds to me like a badly written porno of Twilight which gives fetishes a really bad name.

I've heard of them, but I'm not in the least interested to read them, especially if it's a twilight porn version.I'm not into those type of books.

I bought the first book off Amazon I'm sick of not knowing wtf people are talking about.

If it's a bad representation of BDSM relationships then it will probably piss me off too. I'll read it with an open mind though.

From the reviews I've read people seem to love it or hate it (seems an awful lot like Twilight already) :/
