Question about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - August 16th 2012, 08:10 PM

This thread has been labeled as containing spoilers. The contents of this thread might therefore describe important elements of a storyline that could ruin it for you. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I've re-read the book and this has bothered me for a while. Did Dumbledore know that Harry would survive the killing curse at the end? I know he wanted Voldemort to destroy the horcrux inside of Harry but did he know it wouldn't kill him? Did he know that if Harry accepted his own death to destroy Voldemort he would be fine? Or was he "raising him like a pig for slaughter" like Snape said?

I'm not totally sure since it's been a while since I've read the book, but I think Dumbledore knew that Harry would survive if he accepted his fate. I could be wrong though.

I'm honestly not sure if he knew or not. But, one thing that you need to understand about Dumbledore is that he was always willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. I don't think he was necessarily raising Harry as a pig for slaughter. But, I think he would have pushed him to allow Voldemort to kill him, even if he knew that Harry wouldn't survive. It seems like he was always more concerned with destroying Voldemort than in protecting individual lives.

I think he probably knew, as much as Dumbledore was more concerned about killing Voldemort, he did care about Harry. He knew that regardless of what he thought the consequences would be, Harry would do the right thing, which was letting Voldemort kill him.
I love Dumbledore too much to think he'd be that heartless.

Some Riot - Elbow

A friend of mine grows his very own brambles
They twist all around him 'til he can't move
Beautiful, quivering, chivalrous shambles
What is my friend trying to prove?

...I think when he's drinking he's drowning some riot
What is my friend trying to hide?

...And it's breaking my heart to pour like the rain
Brother of mine, don't run with those fuckers
When will my friend start singing again?
When will my friend start singing again?

I always worried about the "greater good" too. I hope he knew, I loved Dumbledore
