50 Shades of Grey? - August 28th 2012, 09:36 AM

Well I really don't know whether to read the books, people keep nagging me saying its good but then other people are saying its awful.

Who else has read the books? If so, should I read them?

If you appreciate good writing, don't read them.

Read Sweet Seduction by Maya Banks instead

50 Shades of Grey drives me insane... It doesn't portray a true BDSM relationship. A lot of people are going to get themselves into some really dangerous situations because they don't understand it.
And the writing's awful.

Sorry I couldn't be there, I was tied to a rocking chair.

I haven't read it yet, but I reserved it at the library a week or so ago. It'll be awhile before I get it because there are 200+ reviews. Mainly I want to read it to see what all the fuss is about. I'm not going to let other people's opinions influence what I read. I've heard good and bad things, but that doesn't really matter to me. Read it if you want to, not because other people tell you it's good or it's bad.

Edwards is a jerkass billionaire, deflowering Bella for the audacity of entertaining a relationship with him without informing him, a perfect stranger, of her virginity. Bella is a quivering, whiny, bitch who can't stop complaining about how beautiful everyone is compared to her, even though she is skinny, pale, and has large eyes. As a grown woman, she talks to her inner goddess, who alternates from nympho to child in the space of a sentence, and refers to her lower genitalia as "down there".

I've read the first few paragraphs and didn't like it. I found it difficult to read.

To be fair most of the erotic novels I have read aren't very well written.

I liked the books, but you're right, there is an awful lot of mixed reviews. It's not the best written book and some things about it really annoyed me, but I didn't enjoy it for the sex in it as much as the story behind it. A lot of people I know are reading it just to say they've read what everyone is on about, so I see no reason why you couldn't give it a go. It's totally up to you if you do or not though, but you might as well develop your own opinions on it.
