Favorite Character from Literature? -
July 14th 2009, 08:13 AM
I'm just wondering what everyone's favorite characters are in the books they've read. I thought it'd be interesting to see some answers.
Me, I can't pick a top, but my favorites are: Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov - Crime and Punishment Holden Caulfield - Catcher in the Rye Yossarian - Catch 22 As you can see, I'm a fan of conflictual characters. I just find them more interesting... What about you? |

Hmm I can't really think of anyone right that I really like. I'll just have to say I like Ron Weasley for now and about half of the other Harry Potter characters (I get a bit Harry Potter obsessed whenever there's a new film coming out)

I'm going to go withhh..
Mersault from The Stranger! I mean...seriously - what a cool dude to observe. I certainly wouldn't want to be his friend. xD Otherwise probably Junie B. Jones as it seeems her and I get into a lot of trouble. Or, we did, from what I remember in reading her books as a first grader (I'm not an entirely avid reader, heh :P ). Live and let live. |

Dustfinger from the Inkheart series. I just find him a very intriguing character.

Max from When The Wind Blows and At The Lakehouse is someone you can seriously relate to, it's like she embodies a particular part of your psyche that you never considered on it's own before. Sort of like your liberated dream self that you never even dreamed about.
Lisbeth Salander from the Millenium trilogy is also an amazing charactor (really well developped in the 2nd book) who is described in just enough depth so that you really apreciate her rational thought process, but not so much that the mystery surrounding her blows away. Wow 2 girls for a guy says a lot. Also Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights is fascinating, wouldn't be top of my list though... |

I like the little boy in "A Child Called It" it was a true story based on one of the worst cases of child abuse in California. I forgot his name, but he's went through a lot that I can admire.

I am so glad no one said Edward Cullen
[yet].It's hard to decide for me, but I really liked Anna from My Sister's Keeper. I thought that the main character (whose name I can never remember) in The Catcher and The Rye was really awesome too. ------ Though I walk through the valley of the shadow ofAmanda Panda death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. There are so many and the more I think about it the more I think of.
The first one that popped into my head was Dolphin from Illustrated Mum by Jacqueline Wilson. This was a book that stuck with me through childhood and I still love it to this day even though I have grew out of most other Jacqueline Wilson books. I love the character of Dolphin and how she reacts to the problems in school and with her family. |

Favorite because I can relate to them:
Holden Caulfield - Catcher in the Rye (always the outsider) Oliver Twist - Oliver Twist (Although I was adopted, for some reason I really relate a lot to him) David Rice - Jumper (A lot of the book deals with his struggles finding his place & search for his birth mother) Max Evans - Roswell (Introverted, adolescent alien that was adopted upon his arrival as a child) |

Scout and Jem- To Kill A Mockingbird
Anna- My Sister's Keeper Elena, paige, clay, lucas, jeremy - (Women of the otherworld) Thats about it. About Dave Pelzer's books being fake; I don't think they were ever proven fake and I just googled it and I couldn't get a hit but I could still be wrong. There could never be amore beautiful you

Arthur from The Keys To The Kingdom series. (He was just so cool. :P)
Klaus from A Series of Unfortunate Events. (A great series of books that are highly underrated) Hermion from Harry Pottter (just, cause. :P) Simon from the book Stuff. (I really related to him once upon a time) Inigo from The Princess Bride. (I think that's his name, I haven't read that book in a while. He was the guy who was avenging his father's death and was SO cool.) Save some face... ...you know you've only got one. ![]() Blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah, Blah blah blah blah blaah. |

Ditto on the Harry Potter mentions!, plus Snape. How has no one said Snape?!?
Otherwise: (Anthony) MacMurrough from At Swim Two Boys Sal Paradise (as someone else said) from On The Road And, Jane Austen characters in general. They make me laugh, and the men make me squeeeel in a fangirly kind of way. (I'm talking to you, Mr. Darcy and Col Brandon...) Holden Caulfield and Yossarian, of course, both of whom were already mentioned. |

Arthur "Boo" Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird
The scene where he saves Scout and Jem from Bob Ewell has been imprinted into my memory, lol. "What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other?" -George Eliot"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
