Where can I buy books for cheap? - December 29th 2009, 10:10 PM

So, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get books online for cheap and maybe sell books as well. I have heard of half.com but I don't know if there are any better websites out there. I live in the united states, if that makes any difference.

See, I really love to read but I don't every really have the money to go out and buy books. I mean, I could but I am trying to save money so if I could shop for cheap that would be cool. I go to a used book store on occasion but to be honest most of those stores do not have the books that I want.

So, I guess if anyone has an idea of where I could go to sell/buy used books that would be helpful.

Thank you,

Jenna

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

Charity shops are amazing for cheap books.... I swear by them, Thanks to charity shops ive never spent more than 1.50 for a book.

I found 'stephine meyers the host' yesterday for 30p (sorry I dont know the currency conversion) if that puts it into perspective for you.

Amazon.

You can buy second hand books through Amazon so they're cheap. Some are even 1p. You can also sell your books there.

If you want to sell though I recommend www.play.com as they don't take as much of the profit as Amazon does.

I highly recommend these sites. (:

http://www.buybackbooks.com/

I know that they look really amateur, but they aren't. Really good prices to find books and you have potential to make alot if your selling. Good luck, lol.

Definately Amazon for a main suggestion and also play.com as someone has suggested too, and obviously, Ebay.

Librarys give away books for free or charge less than a dollar. I would check there. I buy my books there and you can also check them out, instead of buying them.

Paperbackswap.com. I've heard a lot about it, but haven't tried it. You can trade and swap books for free, or the cost of postage I think.

Like said before charity shops, and of course, libraries.

I think this is what you meant though?

If you have any used bookstores around you, they're definitely good places to go. I go to a used bookstore a lot up north. They have super cheap books, and they're still good quality (as in not falling apart or anything. xD). If you can find one near you, it's definitely worth a shot. Online there's Amazon, eBay, or booksamillion.com

I know this would be an investment if your short on cash- But if you're a big reader and the library doesn't always have what you're looking for maybe you should consider buying a Kindle- the amazon.com electronic book.

its $260, can hold up to 1500 books at one time, books download in like a minute, and almost all ny times best sellers & new releases are only $9.99. Compare that to what the actual book costs, a lot of times you're saving like 50%! theres hundreds of thousands of books to choose from.

Of course, there's also programs like paperbackswap.com which people have already mentioned.

hope you are able to find a cost efficient way to keep reading!

I work in a library, and every three months we sell books that no longer circulate or that have been donated. The highest price is generally $1.25, and you really can find some pretty good books. For example, when Twilight became so big, the branch I work in bought 28 copies because the holds list was so long for the book. Now that the demand has slowed for Twilight a little (because everyone wants New Moon now) we're going to be selling 14 of the Twilight books at the next book sale. They're paperback, so they'll be $0.50 each. Pretty darn good deal if you ask me.

About selling books. The staff always gets first pick when books are donated, so for a while I'd pick up ones I wanted to read along with books that were popular or that looked brand new. I put them all up for sale on Amazon, but hardly any of them sold. And when they did sell, it was just too much of a hassle to ship them. See if you can find a used book store that will buy them off you.

Library sales are a really good way. Check to see if any of your local libraries have book sales. I used to get grocery bags full of books for a dollar per bag at one of the library sales here. Also Goodwill stores have alot of good books for really cheap
