Recommend Me Some Books - August 13th 2010, 01:20 AM

I need to buy a few more books, so I want to hear what you think I should buy. Right now I'm looking for fantasy books only. The two main fantasy series I have read and immensely enjoyed are the Harry Potter series and The Dresden Files (look them up, they're awesome). Please don't recommend either Wizard's First Rule or The Way of Shadows, I already own both of those books, I just haven't gotten around to reading them (I actually started The Way of Shadows, but I stopped. Now I'm sort of angry because I accidentally found out
Spoiler:
Durzo dies
and I don't know if I want to start reading it again.) Anyway, recommend away!

It says it's a manga. I'm looking for mainly text books.

I'd reccomend both the Eragon and the Lord of the Rings series! Eragon comes along with two other books-Eldest and Brisingr. The Lord of the Rings is a trigology but is preceded by the Hobbit, which is the prelude

Re: Recommend Me Some Books - August 13th 2010, 08:37 PM

Eragon and Eldest were great but I couldn't get into Brisingr. I will probably pick it up in the future though.

Wicked Lovely is good but it isn't for you? Why not?

What about Kelley Armstrong. She has woman of the otherworld series and the first book is Bitten and then she has a YA trilogy out and the first book is the Summoning. Both series very good and she is going to continue writing her YA series so the ending of the Summoning trilogy, while disappointing in a way, will be slipped into her other books eventually so we will learn more. Or so she says.

Evernight by Claudia Gray. There are three books so far.
The city of bones, City of Ash, City of Glass- Cassandra Clare
Graceling-Kristin Cashore
The house of night series- P.C Cast and Kristin Cast

That is really all I can think of at the moment but I might figure out some more in a little while and come back! Hope this helped.

Also, you have a Goodreads account, yes? If so you should go into that and look up the fantasy genre and see if you can find anything. I find a lot of the books on my list by doing that.

is so wonderful

Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

Definately Inkheart if you haven't already read it. Inkspell is the sequel.

Have you read the Uglies trilogy? That's fantasy, but it's probably aimed more towards younger teens.

I don't know, I don't think I've ever read a book with a female main character. I just can't get into them for some reason. Maybe some sort of lack of identification?

Ahh, that makes sense. I kind of figured it might have something to do with that.

The book was a decent read but it wasn't great so you aren't missing out too much!

Perhaps you could try Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice.
Have you tried Terry Pratchett books?

Och, give it a try dude, you'll be surprised, break your barriers and stuff .

Also, try Ian Irvine's The Tale of the Mirror quartet, starting with A Shadow on the Glass, very deep and well developed fantasy, gritty, gripping and rather awesome =).

And there's always the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Whilst I've not read them myself, I've heard nothing but good things from my friends?

I started Discworld, got up to Wyrd Sisters before I stopped. I enjoyed Good Omens more than Discworld. I also finished The Way of Shadows and its two sequels, enjoyed very much.

I'll look into The Tale of the Mirror, I know Wheel of Time is a big commitment.

Have you tried A Song of Ice and Fire? Very good, but kind of darkish, and some disturbing things throughout, kind of adult actually. But still amazing. Lots of main characters too, so you should find someone to relate too. :P

Wheel of Time is good, for like the first 6 books, then I thought it just dragged on and on, never read the last one Jordan released before his death.

I read Inkheart, but damn that was like five years ago. I liked The Thief Lord more than Inkheart.

I hear lots of recommendations for A Song of Ice and Fire. I just want to know, is it like fantasy action? That's what I'm most interested in.

Re: Recommend Me Some Books - September 1st 2010, 04:06 AM

There is violence, and lots of it, but its not really the intent of it. If it were a movie, I would say its more like Heat, the violence isn't the focus, but theres still quite a bit of it, and its well done, if a bit brutally realistic at times from what I remember. There are substantial parts without violence though.

I say violence, because its too real, even in just words, its serious fighting rather than just for fun, and there is violence unrelated to wars and battles. Characters you end up caring about will die, and others will suffer a great deal.

Oh, that's good, I just saw a movie, there was a lot of violence, but it was pretty much the focus of the movie. I just enjoy a fight once in a while. Seems like I have a nice list next time I go book shopping.
