Harry Potter series. Books vs Films :) - November 19th 2010, 11:46 PM

So, do you guys prefer the books or films? I love the films but I honestly prefer the books. Lupin just doesn't look right to me in the films :| He was always blonde (actually, did J.K. ever mention his hair colour? I can't remember), really tall and quite good looking in my head. Umbridge doesn't look right either, she always looked like my old art teacher in my head

I just genuinely prefer books more than films.

The books are definitely better, the films go right off of the rails in the later films D=

Books, more than movies by far.
I've only seen a few movies which can compare with the books.
And I agree, Lupin should have been waaaay hotter, as well as Sirius

I like the books over the movies...
But I still love the movies, it kinda gives me something to judge about how I pictured the story in my room.

I'm the biggest Harry Potter geek EVER

I prefer the books but I get soooo excited for the films.

I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on friday, and although it was an amazing film, I couldn't stop thinking "omg theyve missed that out!" "that never happened in the book!" so I guess reading the books kind of ruined it for me in a way.

Still LOVE them both though

I love them both, but I'd take the books over the movies. I like seeing them acted out, and nothing in particular was shockingly different to how I imagined it. Infact, Luna was pretty much spot on. What Evanna Lynch did for Luna was amazing.

Noo....

I'm going to see the DH in less than two hours and I will literally cry if then manage to mess it up as much as the PoA movie. (Maybe I'm just being biased but the movie was not nearly as good as the book. It was... lacking.)

I love the books and to tell the truth I like the moves. Even with some of the very spot on portayals in the movies, for me the books will always be better than the movies. Everything looks better in my imagination...

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

I'm like Nicola, I like them both separately (for the most part, wasn't a fan of OOTP)

If I had to compare then the books everytime. Only movies 1 and 2 come anywhere near being as good as the books. The other ones just miss too much out and change too much.

The books, by far. They screwed up the movies a lot. I mean, I still like the movies, but the last one (not the most recent one, the name is slipping my brain at the moment) was SO hard for me to sit through. That one was awful.

I do love Harry Potter, not a massive fan or anything and sadly I've never read any of the books but yeah, I think I would very much rather the books. It'll probably take me a long time to read the whole thing. but I vote in for the books....

Yeah lupin in the film looks like a rat! He should haveplayed wormtail... haha I so prefer the boks , even hermione isn't right in the films! She's suposed to be ugly and bucktoothed (her muggle parents are dentists AND WANT TO GET HER BRACES!)! Not pretty and nice! Hagrid is too small , he's actually suposed to be alot bigger!
But Mrs weasly is perfect I have to admit ^^
And draco is so girly , he makes me laugh!
But what is with luna'a american accent?

I look at the films and books as two separate entities. So, while I really love the books, I also really love the movies too, but for different reasons.

And no offense but a lot of your guys' complaints are kind of dumb. It doesn't matter what color Harry's eyes are exactly, just that him and his mother have the same eye color.
And Hermione isn't suppose to be as pretty as Emma Watson? Who says? I always thought that as the trio got older they grew quite nicely into their looks. If Hermione isn't suppose to be pretty then how could she pull guys like Krum and McLaggen?

books by far. The movies don't convey Rowling's humor in narration. (since there is no narration) and they always mess up the movies.

I think I like the books better but I still like being able to see the series in film. So, really I don't judge them. I know that the movies are not going to be as great as the books but I still enjoy them.

Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

The books are always the best. Though, I'll give the last film a bit of credit. It's a bit better than the rest of the movies. At least it goes along the line of the books to some extent. The rest of the movies, particularly the last two, were off.

I always pictured Lupin to be rather plump, and I imagined Umbridge as a grimy witch. Her image portrayed in the movies is quite ironic. But now that I've seen them in the movies, that's how I portray them in my head.

Now I want to go re-read the books. D= I have book 7 home with me this weekend; five and six are at my college apartment. I need to go dig up one, two, and three with me and take them back to college with me.

i love the books. Not a big fan of the films i think the Sorcerers Stone, Goblet of fire, Chamber of secrets are ok. The prisoner of Azkaban is the best of the series and the last three: The order of the phoenix, The half blood prince and The deathly hollows are the worst of the series.

I watched the Deathly Hallows part 1 and I really think that's one of the better movies I'm not a fan of a few things they left out
Spoiler:
(the Dursley's saying goodbye to harry)
or some of the things they put in
Spoiler:
(the dance scene with Harry and Hermoine, it seemed out of place)

While I'm a big fan of both, having just seen part one of Deathly Hallows, I have to go with the books. I love the ability to use your imagination and picture characters for yourself. I love being able to take it at my own pace. I love feeling the emotions as perceived when you first read rather than taking the emotions from another character.

And I love JK Rowling's writing.

But, I love both...

Books, for sure.

Though don't get me wrong, there are some things I LOVE about the movies, such as the casting for Luna and Bellatrix. I also loved the Tale of the Three Brothers in the seventh movie... my best friend and I were literally blown away by it! And occasionally some of the extra things they throw in are hilarious or really fitting.

I hated the sixth movie, though. They left out SO many important things, like the diadem and Snape overhearing the prophecy! HATED. Good luck fixing all the errors you made in HBP in DH2...

Oh, and the first kiss between Harry and Ginny? THAT WAS NOT SEVERAL SUNLIT DAYS.

Becca. :]

The books, by far.
Don't get me wrong, I love the movies. But everytime I watch them I find something else wrong with them. Like Harry's eyes and the fact that you're not supposed to be able to see Ron's face for freckles (though I think Ron is amazing in the movies and better without the freckles)

When I was younger, I prefered the books 100%. I honestly just like reading more than watching movies. Then, the other day, I flipped through the seventh one and found that the writing doesn't really suit my tastes anymore. It's a great story and I love it, but I'd rather save any leisure reading time I have for Vonnegut. Movies win this time.
