Not the 50 books you must read before you die - March 27th 2011, 04:27 PM

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/b...e-you-die.html

I know it's the Torygraph, but this is actually pretty funny. And while this is mostly an excuse to link to a lulzy article, I'm also curious to see how many of these books people have read. I've managed to complete a mere six: 1984, The God Delusion, The Da Vinci Code, Twilight, Harry Potter, and... one other. In other words, the least literary ones on the list.

*is clearly a philistine*

Only 4...

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell,
The Fry Chronicles by Stephen Fry,
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer,
Harry Potter… by JK Rowling.

Quite a few of those (including the God Delusion) are on my kindle waiting to be read though...

I've read Harry Potter, Twilight, The Da Vinci Code and we read about half of Pride and Prejudice in advanced English last year. So three and a half.
Though, it didn't say which Harry Potter book, so that's like seven books, so can I say nine and a half?

1. 1984
2. Emma
3. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
4. A Short History of Nearly Everything
5. Birdsong
6. The God Delusion.
7. The Da Vinci Code
8. Harry Potter.
9. The Alchemist (One of the worst books I've ever read)

So 9 and a half because I've read most of Crime and Punishment but honestly it's such a load of crap that I couldn't be bothered to end it. No idea why it's so popular.

1. Pride & Prejudice
2. Emma
3. The Canterbury Tales
4. Great Gatsby
5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (which I actually loved)
6. Eat, Pray, Love
7. Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas
8. Angela's Ashes
9. The Da Vinci Code
10. Twilight
11. Harry Potter

Most of them were pretty good. I know 2 of them are actually favorites of mine.. I'm a huge Girl with the Dragon Tattoo/Jane Austen fan.

Ulysses by James Joyce
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
The Outsider by Albert Camus
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Harry Potter… by JK Rowling

I don't understand how this person thought it was reasonable to put Stephenie Meyer on a list including Kafka and Camus. Horror.

From that list I've read:

- 1984
- Pride and Prejudice
- The Canterbury Tales
- The Great Gatsby
- Gone With the Wind
- The Outsider
- The God Delusion
- DaVinci Code
- Harry Potter

I tried reading War & Peace years ago but didn't get far at all, so I won't include that.

So 9 in total, although as said above, if you're nit-picky then 10.

20) The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - I really enjoyed this.
26) A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson - I've read a bit of this, and it's really good. Then I lost my copy. I've found it again and it's on my list of books to finish reading.
46) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer - I hated it.
47) Harry Potter… by JK Rowling - I am a complete and utter Harry Potter nerd and I live for these books.

But I've read loads of good books.
