What/who was your favourite childhood book/author? - October 19th 2011, 09:02 PM

The title says it all! We all had a favourite book or author growing up, right? So who was yours?

I used to LOVE Enid Blyton. I loved 'Mr Meddle's Muddles'. My grandad used to read it to me loads.

Re: What/who was your favourite childhood book/author? - October 19th 2011, 09:22 PM

Hard question, considering it changed every few months.

But here are a few:

I loved Dr. Seuss, especially To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street and The Lorax.
Had a big thing for Anne of Green Gables and the rest of that series for awhile - my dad read it to me and it was bonding material, just like when he read The Sword and the Stone to me.
Oh, and I owned just about every Nancy Drew ever written at one point... although my dad wasn't too fond of me liking crime novels.

There was also this book (Anatole by Eve Titus) about a mouse who worked in a cheese factory that I'm pretty sure is directly responsible for my love of cheese.

And of course Shel Silverstein and The Box Car Children and oh man, the macdonald hall series, who was that by? Gordan Korman?

Okay, so maybe I just can't choose...

Ruth Chew (wrote a lot of books- upwards of 20- that involved magic, time travel, and older sisters leading around younger brothers)
and
Roald Dahl (I don't really need to elaborate why. The BFG and Willy Wonka were my favorites)

Tomie Depaola. I loved "Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs," and have a signed copy of one of his books (I forget what one, but it's a Christmas one!) I have a happy 70th birthday Tomie hat, too. :P

I also liked Dr. Seuss, of course!

I began reading Harry potter books in second or third grade on my own, but my mom used to read them to me, so J.K. Rowling.

I also used to read any & every book by R.L. Stine.

I read basically everything R.L. Stine's ever put out when I was younger. Roald Dahl is also completely perfect.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

Its easier said that done BUT most of the great things wouldn't have ever been done if they hadn't been said first.
