Re: Book...books - December 13th 2011, 11:27 PM

It's so hard to come to a decision

Cut by Cathy Glass - Because I guess I can relate to it pretty well and I think it was beautifully written.

But also Sing me home and The anorexia Diaries.

No, and like all of Jodi picoults. I like Keeping faith. Okay done. Bye.

I agree, it's hard to pick just one.

I'd say my favorites are:
-Catcher in the Rye
-Harry Potter
-Pendragon
-Spellfall

& Most books by James Patterson.

The Catcher in the Rye and The Perks of Being A Wallflower.
I read them when I feel alone or upset.

Re: Book...books - December 19th 2011, 01:32 AM

I have a million favorites. But one of my absolute favorites would have to be White Oleander by Janet Fitch. There are so many passages in it that I identify with whole-heartedly.

“I don't let anyone touch me," I finally said.
Why not?"
Why not? Because I was tired of men. Hanging in doorways, standing too close, their smell of beer or fifteen-year-old whiskey. Men who didn't come to the emergency room with you, men who left on Christmas Eve. Men who slammed the security gates, who made you love them then changed their minds. Forests of boys, their ragged shrubs full of eyes following you, grabbing your breasts, waving their money, eyes already knocking you down, taking what they felt was theirs. (...) It was a play and I knew how it ended, I didn't want to audition for any of the roles. It was no game, no casual thrill. It was three-bullet Russian roulette.”

“I understood why she did it. At that moment I knew why people tagged graffiti on the walls of neat little houses and scratched the paint on new cars and beat up well-tended children. It was only natural to want to destroy something you could never have.”

I just love it so much. Wow.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

I love anything by Ellen Hopkins. Her books really make me feel better about my own life, and are always an interesting read.

Re: Book...books - January 12th 2012, 05:49 AM

Manchild in the Promised Land, by Claude Brown; its about a black kid growing up in Harlem in the 50's and 60's... I love it because his life was so completely different from mine.

Plantation (A Lowcountry Tale), by Dorothea Frank; its about a woman who moves from New York back to her wealthy family in the South. I love it because of the characters. Extremely well written.

Portnoy's Complaint, Philip Roth; about a Jewish kid growing up and dealing with sex, his parents, and being Jewish. Assigned book, but loving it...one of the funniest I've ever read.

I like Jodi Picoult books because they always keep me in suspense, or anything by Ellen Hopkins because I can always feel the emotions.

The impossible question, haha.

-Harry Potter (all of them), because of the unbelievably good plot and characters and everything
-The Hunger Games, because I've never read a more real feeling scifi futuristic book.
-The Book Thief, because it's written so well, and it's so unique, it always sticks with me (and makes me cry)

Re: Book...books - January 17th 2012, 09:51 PM

I think my favourite book of all time has to be Angel Blood by John Singleton. I love how different it is and how I still remember it, even after reading it almost two years ago.

But I really love Entangled by Cat Clarke, probably because I can kind of relate to it.
