I read the first one a year or so ago. I'm getting pretty tired of the Sweet Polly Oliver trope, so this book made me a little annoyed (It's where a female character dresses up as a man to accomplish some end), and it's incredibly overused.
The premise, magical science robots STEAMPUNK WWI and of course the Sweet on Polly Oliver storyline (boy falling for girl dresses as boy), makes an over-complicated plot and an annoying, kitchy read. |

True enough. I like the idea of the war scene to it, and Alek is of course my favorite. I have to agree with the over used theme of girl pretending to be a boy but i guess he used it just to add a touch of plot and interest for Dylan's side :P and because it wasn't uncommon back then for women to at least try.
