Staff openings for Avatar (TeenHelp’s magazine). - October 11th 2009, 08:43 AM

Hello everyone!

We’re interested in recruiting a number of new staff members to get involved with TeenHelp’s monthly magazine, Avatar. We are creating a number of new editor positions to expand our current editorial team, in addition to filling a current vacancy. So please read the information about the position openings below, and if you’re still interested in any position, please submit an application by clicking here.

To view previous editions of Avatar, click here.

Note: Everyone is eligible to apply, providing the post and registration requirements are met. You also must not have had any staff application declined in the last month. All Avatar positions may be used as either primary or secondary staff positions. If you are a current staff member and would like to change to being an Avatar editor primarily upon acceptance, you may do so.

Positions and Information

Sub-Editor of News and Debates

The Sub-Editor of News and Debates will be responsible for writing one or more articles monthly covering well-publicized as well as less well known issues relating to news and debates (e.g. abortion, gay rights, religion, etc).

Sub-Editor of Dear Avatar

The Sub-Editor of Dear Avatar will be responsible for writing the “Dear Avatar” column. They will give advice to Avatar readers on a monthly basis concerning several different topics.

Sub-Editor of Fun and Games

The Sub-Editor of Fun and Games is responsible for the more relaxed content in Avatar such as games, quizzes, comics, etc.

Sub-Editor of Graphics and Quality

The Sub-Editor of Graphics and Quality is responsible for introducing more user-created images into Avatar as well as helping other Editors to improve the quality of both the content and graphics by spotting errors.

Requirements for all positions:
  • High standard of written English, including the ability to pick out mistakes in other’s articles.
  • Willing to put in a lot of time and energy; the applicant must be dedicated to the role.
  • Able to meet deadlines; this is particularly crucial for the Graphics Editor, who may only have a few days to put the PDF together once the content has been finalized.
  • Responsive to reasonable requests made by other editors of Avatar. In particular, it will typically be expected that you mix and match your jobs with those of others (i.e. giving suggestions for the designs if you’re a content sub-editor, or helping to edit articles not within your specific area(s); though more time should be given to your role than to that of others).
  • A strong initiative. All editorial positions will have the opportunity to expand on their own role, as well as help to expand Avatar as a whole. We’re constantly looking for new ideas for the magazine, so we’re looking for people who have got some!
Good luck!
