Question Friend 7 years Older than Me - May 17th 2015, 11:33 AM

So, I have a friend on the internet called Steve, but he is 18 while I'm only 11, so I'm kinda scared of adding him on Skype and calling him, I could just lie about my age but that just Isn't me. I'm wondering if anyone maybe has some advice for me (obviously) and can help me out? This isn't really bullying put I think it fits under peer pressure.

I don't think you should lie about your age. Lying could cause problems in the future. If your friend were to find out that you lied about your age, he might struggle to trust you with other things and that can cause a strain on your friendship. I suggest being honest. Perhaps you can explain how old you are and then remind him that you're still the same friend he's had, you're just a little younger. There's not a problem with having friends that are older or younger than you and hopefully he's aware of that. Maybe you can look at some articles that talk about friendships with age gaps and see if you can send him some.

Let me know what happens.

I agree with the above poster - lying may only cause problems down the road and put a severe dent in his trust of you. I would suggest being honest and explaining that you still wish to be his friend regardless of the age difference. Just remember to exercise safety and caution when speaking with people online

Lying is definitely never the way to go. Just be honest (: and don't worry about the age difference, my best friend is 13 years older than me

it's just a spark, but it's enough to keep me going. and when it's dark out, no one's around, it keeps glowing.

the truth hurts but it hasn't stung enough to stop me.

see, you're just wasted and thinking 'bout the past again, darling, you'll be okay.

You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way. - song of songs 4:7

As the above posts have said, I would be honest about your age.
I have friends of all different ages, one being 9 years older then me.
