Anti-bullying week 2010 -
November 15th 2010, 09:33 PM
So it's anti-bullying week!!!
A time where we all have a chance to stand up for what we believe in .. And to gain a bit of hope. I love supporting the cause. I'll be wearing my blue anti-bullying band all week .. And I even got my PE teachers to agree to let me wear it during those lessons which I feel is a real sign of support. I hope more people join the campaign this year.. So if you didn't even know it was anti-bullying week, or don't know what to do.. Just give someone a compliment.. Or a simple hello..or maybe just a smile.. Its amazing how much of a difference it can make to a persons life. What will you guys be doing for anti-bullying week..? |

Thanks for telling. I thought that anti-bullying week was two months ago. I will surely do something to make it know that I'm standing up for something thats worth standing up for.

it can be effective if enough people take part or do something in anti bullying week to help stop bullying.

I think this is worth it man! I think anti-bullying week is a fabulous idea!
I haven't personally done anything. Although year sevens (We guessed because they are 'most vulnerable')have been in the hall all day doing activities and listening to proper loud music on loud tube. They all sang to firework by Katy Perry too Was lovely! And They all made shoe boxes and drew on them and wrote a feeling of how bullying make them feel and they all got footballs and kicked them all together to knock them down!

I support it's cause, but the week itself is usually ineffective.
People never want to take responsibility, never want to think about the consequences. It's the human condition. For example, we had an anti-bullying seminar/conference around three months back. We covered issues that bullying causes, and particuarly suicide. Some were in tears and almost everyone vowing to take more notice and responsibility, not wanting to harm another human being. A few of months on, we have people jeering me on to kill myself. My point is, it's not that it doesn't receive enough recognition, it's just that people suck. I have a (hopefully) more effective method to combat bullying, based off of the schools in America that stage car accidents apparently involving students (that are said to have died). The entire things are set-ups to raise awareness of road safety. I propose that schools do the same with a bullied student's "suicide", having them stay at home for the day, as the "car accident" students do. This would hopefully be a relatively effective method of raising the awareness of the effects of bullying. Topic and written art suggestions and requests now availabe for submission in my blog!

I wouldn't be taking part in it because there's awareness of it already. People are aware of it in its various forms all over the place. It seems pointless to me to have an awareness week for something people are all very well aware about. Instead of being aware, it'd be effective to learn how to deal with bullies better and not by asking them to stop, saying they're hurting your feelings or running off to a teacher. I'm not implying fight the bully physically but if there's going to be anti-bullying, then those participating should learn and teach how to stand up to a bully mentally and win mentally because that's often the advantage they have - mental. Perhaps also show and have by-standers get involved rather than stand around. Those are the issue to be addressed, not colouring on boxes, eating pizza and shooting fireworks (all of which are good but they won't help bullying decrease).
To show it is aware, any school in any continent knows about bullying in some form or another and try to combat it. Tossing more awareness doesn't make it go away unless people learn what and how to do it. The kind I would like is to have someone (or group) simulate a bully situation and have the person learn how to deal with it. First, starting with simple childish name-calling then working the way up to nearly physical and encouraging suicide. Learning how to deal with those situations by having them simulated I think is more effective. Eat pizza and colour shoe boxes later afterward. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
