Poltical Beliefs - January 14th 2011, 03:47 AM

There is a boy that I had a whole bunch of political debates with when I was in sixth grade(the year of the '08 election). He believes more in democratic views, I in republication. He gets more and more rude to me by the year. Sixth grade, it's alright, I could tolerate him. Seventh grade, didn't have any classes with him, not a problem. This year, I have gotten to the point where I want to either a) strangle him, b) cry, or c) all of the above. We've looked up information about candidates who ran for local elections in the state of Ohio, and he is always bad talking the republication candidate. I can stand it for awhile, but when he makes comments that are straight out rude to me, I refuse to sit there and take them. I don't say much, I have self control, enough to not scream at him when a teacher is in spitting range. Instead I just say "Shut up Chris, I could care less about your opinion," or "Did I give the impression that I give a damn?". He is in my history class, and we're on polar ends with all beliefs in that class. Our teacher places us on other sides of the room, but still I hear his mean comments to me or about me. And since I'm the nice, quiet, shy girl, I have to bite my tongue. I share my opinion, I'm the only girl in my class who does. Most of the time, I'm the only one who will. Or at least I'm the only one who will speak up first. Since I put myself into that position, I can't really say that I don't care for his opinion when he speaks up. I can handle his comments when we're in the classroom, when we're in history. Sadly I also have health with him. Today he threw something at me when the teacher was talking to someone and said, "Stupid republication." I don't care that he called me that, I'm called that all the time because I go to a school where most kids come from democratic families. I care that he threw something at me, I care that he degraded me in front of a lot of kids. I care that he got my friends to laugh when I walked away holding my head high, and he threw yet another thing at me. What I care is that I'm too kind and quiet and nice and shy to return his favors to me. He never gets caught, but if I do anything, I'd be caught in a heartbeat. I don't want to stoop to his level and just call him a stupid democrat, I'd never say that, my best friend comes from a democratic family! I can't say what I don't believe is true, but I need to say something to get him off my back about this. He is too thick headed to see that his beliefs aren't always the right ones, at least I'll say to him that yes, sometimes the democrats are right, but you know what, sometimes the republications are too. What do I say to him to make him see that I don't care what he thinks, I stand strong to my opinions, even if I'm in the minority? I've told him straight out, but he just doesn't get it. How do I explain that to him?

First off, you're not a minority, there are plenty of us Republicans out there, well I fall more into the nationalist end, but that's not important

Second, I can help you give some good arguments to rebuttle what he says, is there any "core" arguments or points he always makes?

On a side note, after he comes up with some super long, well thought out point, just respond "Cool story bro" and leave it at that, makes people made as heck!

Guile, he'll rustle your jimmies...

Politicians and diapers should both be changed often, and for the same reason.... Guile

I think if you want to talk politics with other people that is fine, but when people start getting heated and arguing with you or you with them you need to walk away or start a new conversation. it is not worth it and 99.9% of the time you are not going to change each others mind
