Im not really sure what this means? - April 21st 2011, 03:28 AM

I have missed two weeks of school because I am sick with mono. I didnt even know what mono was before I got it, but apparently its called the 'kissing disease'. After I told my dad I had it, he immediately told me not to tell my friends because they would tease me alot for it. I didnt really know what he meant, but I told a couple of my friends and they reacted kinda weird. Is having mono a bad thing? Are people going to think im gross because I had mono? Is it going to make people look at me differently, like guys wont want to date me and girls will think im disgusting??

Well, it's a diesease popular among teens. It's transmitted several ways, usually through direct contact, so yes, kissing an infected person. It doesn't affect everyone, so someone could have it, but have an imunity, and pass it to you unknowingly, making you sick because you are not immune. However using a glass a sick person has used, or even touching a surface they touched and then touching your face can transmit the diease.
Mono doesn't get made fun of so much these days, but the reason it would be is because it makes it seem like you made out with a sick person, despite the fact you might not even know who made you sick, and they could be perfectly healthy.
Be lucky you didn't get it before highschool, because in middle school, that's like throwing yourself to the wolves. I know a kid who got it. It was terrible, two years of being known as "Mono Mike"
My sister had it when she was sixteen, she also got about six other infections, most of which I'm too lazy to spell. No one treated her differently, because she educated her friends about the ways of actually catching the diease.

I don't really know why your friends would look at you weird.. it's just an illness.

I've found the one who completes me.
This love is like nothing I've ever felt before. <3
