Confession: I made someone cry in 8th grade - April 25th 2011, 02:59 PM

I was in Design and Construction (a wood working class) and we were supposed to partner up. A girl came over and asked to be my partner and I said yes. At first, things were alright, except she never helped with the project at all. She barely put any effort in and didn't listen/understand anything. I got really frustrated that she wasn't helping and only holding me back as I watched my friends all have fun together, so I told her I didn't want her as my partner anymore and that we should do separate projects. I explained how I was really frustrated that she couldn't do anything to help. She cried........ Perhaps she took it really personally.

I needed to get that off my chest.

Not sure if I was entirely in the wrong, but god damn it was frustrating.

Amy, you were in the right for asking her to leave the group. She wasn't pulling her weight, so she doesn't deserve to be in a group and take the credit. Don't worry about it. You did the right thing :]

I would have done the same thing because it is unfair for only one person to do all the work, you did the right thing.

Yeah, but I generally don't like making people cry. So I needed to just get it out there so I can at least try to stop beating myself up over it.

Don't beat yourself too bad. You did the right thing, and I'm sure she recovered quickly.

I'm confused about the point of this thread. You're in university so why does it matter if you made a person in grade 8 cry during a class activity? Has it somewhat scarred you since then or why are you posting this? I'm not trying to be condescending in asking this.

Last question: why is it in this sub-forum because it wasn't an act of bullying nor an act of peer-pressure?

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

1. Yes. Just because I'm 6 years older doesn't mean I still don't think about it at times.
2. I still feel badly to this day about what I did, perhaps it's not scarring, but it's not something I'm super proud of.
3. It made the most sense to put it here as I perceived myself as being mean/a bully in this situation.

Amy, don't beat yourself up about it. I'm glad you got it out of your chest though. It must have been a burden off your shoulders. In my opinion, I would have done the same thing, and I don't blame you for doing so. Yes, it's hard when you're not used to treating people that way, but sometimes, you can't sacrifice your grade because your partner isn't pulling her weight. Your grade was important to you. And you couldn't let her take credit for what she hadn't done...
So you should be proud of yourself for speaking up! <3

You did nothing wrong. But if she started crying I'm under impression she was kinda insecure for whatever reasons. Maybe she had learning difficulties or something, we'l never know.

If you've got some spare time, read this:

But don't if you're easily triggered. If you're not easily triggered then go ahead.

Thanks <3 To be honest, it wasn't even about the grade, it was more about the fact that we couldn't get anything accomplished that was driving me crazy. It was frustrating that a two person job, because the job of just me. Grade wise, it wasn't like we weren't going to do well though. Anyways, thanks for the kind words!

Perhaps she does have difficulties with learning or something. In high school she was never in any of my classes again. So yeah. Oh well.

Oh, okay! Even then, it was the right thing to do. Lol. It is not team work unless whoever is in the team works together! You're welcome honey, anytime!

The way I see it, you did the right thing. She wasn't pulling her weight. There's A LOT of that at my school. You don't/shouldn't have to do all the work because she's lazy/won't listen. She was maybe 12, so it's not ALL that unnatural that she cried.

I'm glad you were able to get this off your chest. And don't worry about it too much, that was in the past. Live in the present.

Risk something, take back what's yours.
Say something that you know they might attack you for.
Cause I'm sick of being treated like I have before.
Like it's stupid standing for, what I'm standing for.
