I don't understand your manager's rationale because informally, you did tell him of the issue by saying, "are you serious?" after Shannon told him you worked 10-4. You could have been more formal and vocal about it because he essentially is your boss, not a fellow co-worker. That said, I think he has a stick up his ass by saying you come to him for all problems, not other co-workers. Clearly if you wanted to know where to put a pan, you wouldn't bring the pan to him and ask where it goes, you'd ask a co-worker.
Saying, "I didn't tell him to say that" is not a valid excuse. Obviously you were distressed to tell your co-workers about it and then said you were too nervous to tell him, implying if they care at all, they'll talk to him for you. Indirectly you did tell them to talk to Bob. You were too emotional in running away with your tail between your legs and still being shaky. I've worked in restaurants (not fast-food places) and you'll get yelled at but you have to have skin, a spine and a proverbial pair of balls of steel. You have none of them. If I were in your shoes (I was told quite often to work longer hours), if I disagreed I either told the manager or I sucked it up because it meant more money. If I were told to leave I'd disagree, tell him it won't happen again and get back to working. In sum, you're both at fault. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Yeah, just tell him you're going to walk out. I won't say you don't have a spine, but make sure not to let him think that. Once you've been taken advantage of, you can't stop the cycle, so stand up for yourself. Definitely talk to him face to face though, don't let him hear shit through the grapevine. And remember, don't lose your mind over fast food (or try not too
.Your job ain't worth your health -- always remember that, and it's why I carry a handgun at my retail job in violation of policy. Do it big and don't take shit from coworkers, customers give you enough. |
