Arrow difrent. good?bad? - September 15th 2011, 11:44 PM

well im a punk goth and there is only one other girl in my school like me. shes one of my friends. but even though i say to people that im punk goth , i dont look it. because im so scared of what people are going to say when i when i wear my black jeans, red shirt with black bones on it, my dark eye liner, my dark lip stuff ect. all the other girls are always all girly and wear stuff everyone else is wearing. i REALLY like being a punk goth because everyone else is all girly and bright and buy stuff from areo pastel or amarican eagle. but the last time i wore my red shirt with the black bones, some people laughted at me. i dont know what to do!! my friend said she saw a goth store in a mall near my house and im thinking of going there but im scared of what people will say.

I think you're misunderstanding what the labels of "punk goth", "prep" and so forth refer to. Appearance is only one part of it but attitude and behaviour is another part of it, however, you're not recognizing that. If you wear black, cross-bones, and paint your face white and black, people may still laugh at you not just because they disapprove of your appearance. Instead, they'll laugh because you're playing "dress-up", they won't see you as a "punk goth" since you don't fully understand nor embrace the label, it's purely superficial for you. That may be a difference between the other "punk goth" girl and yourself, she may embrace and understand the label beyond the superficial level. So I would suggest you look up on Google what that label actually involves.

Once you have your new attire and have researched what your label actually is, then wear your clothing to school. If you're laughed at, either ignore it or tell them to go fuck themselves with a 10-foot pole. Some people may say to calmly explain to them it's not nice to laugh, it hurts your feelings, but I think that will only make things worse for you as you'll be viewed as playing dress-up, wearing unpopular clothing and are a sniffling cry-baby. If you like your label, then defend it and be proud of it, otherwise, find another label.

Let me pass down some personal wisdom as I'm several years older than you. I don't use these labels of "prep", "goth", "punk", etc..., not when I was your age, not in the present and not in the future. My reason is the labels attempt to give an explanation of who you are, however, they're completely ambiguous so instead of providing exact information, they provide general, highly flexible information. In other words, it tries but fails at defining you. Calling yourself "punk goth" makes it even more ambiguous. There is no clear-cut example of what each label is, only assumptions and guesses.

When someone asks me what label I give myself, I say I'm a living human being, as that's much more precise than the others. Anyway, that is just something for you to think about. Who knows, you could get more respect that way and it allows you to have a social circle of diverse labels.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Hey there.

There are people in this world that don't like to be individuals so therefore they follow the latest style, clothing and so on. Being your own individual is a really good thing, don't listen to what people say; whether they say stereotypical things, the most important thing is to be YOURSELF. If people do not respect you for how you look and your style and how you like to be, then it's their problem; not yours.

If they say harsh or uneccessary remarks to you, either ignore them or tell them politely to stop. If they don't get a reaction then they'll get bored, so the best thing to do is ignore them or tell them to stop being nasty.

I hope this has helped and it all goes well for you!

Just keep following the heartlines on your hand.

just dont give a shit what they think basically. if you like it, wear it. i get mocked for the kinds of music i like, for how i dress, for how i act, everything. but you know what i do? i tell them to fuck off and get a life because whatbusiness of theirs is it if i do something i like? am i HURTING anyone by doing it? no. and you wont be either, so you shouldnt care what they think. though you probably shouldnt use that label, because its not just about the clothes. like the post earlier, theres an attitude you have to have to go with it if you really want to go with a label.

On the outside I'm smiling,
but inside im crying.
I'm silent, but screaming,
I'm so slowly dying.

Flawless advice. Honestly, some of the best I've seen on TH.
