Question advice for a friend - December 21st 2011, 03:22 PM

In my class, some people seem to have fun making fun of a girl (I'll call her S.) and this behavior just gets on my nerves.
They make fun of S. without a reason.
I know they don't mean to hurt her, but it's just unfair.

Everytime she says something that no one else thinks, they say it's stupid and she's 'stupid'.
She liked a guy. She didn't want to tell him and the girl sitting next to her wrote a letter to him saying that S. liked him and then gave the letter to him. S. is quite shy too so for the whole next week she didn't go out of the classroom in fear she would meet him.

I mean, she's a really nice girl! She bought Christmas presents for the whole class and didn't expect anything back. She's friendly and tender too. I would never treat such a wonderful person that way.

What can I do? At least I want to show her I support her.

When I'm down, I can't help but cry scarlet tears.

Some people believe in God, I believe in Music. Some people pray, I turn up the radio.

I never thought a girl could change my life this much, but you did and now I can't let you go. You'll always be the best part of me. I will miss you, T.

The best thing you can do in this sort of situation is be there for her. She sounds like a really sweet girl and being her friend is one of the kindest things you can do. I know standing up for someone against your peers can be really difficult, but if you can approach the situation in a calm and diplomatic manner when they start ragging on her it'll mean the world to her. Really, it will. As a victim of bullying myself, I know how hard it is to stand up for yourself especially when there's more than one person being mean to you. Having at least one person on your side feels amazing.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

I agree with Cabron. Be a friend. If you think it may help, stand up for her. If you think it will just make matters worse.. talk to a teacher or a trusted adult. They can try to talk to the people that are picking on/bullying S. I think being there for her is going to help more than anything.

I agree with the above posters. Be supportive. That's the best thing you can do right now. It can be very difficult to stand up to them, but if you wanna help her, I believe this is the best way.

I agree with everyone else, just standing by her and talk to her!

Start building up a friendship with her, and then let her know you are there if she needs you!

She does sound like a very nice person - unfortunately people these days judge for no reason than actually taking the time to get to know people. You sound like you know what is right and wrong - the right thing to do right now is to be her friend - and let her know you are there.

Best wishes,
Chris

ok, thank you very much.
If this goes on, I'll try to stick with her more often than I usually do.
