Question Socially Afraid. - October 18th 2014, 12:52 AM

Are there any known ways to make your anxiety better? Since I started college, my anxiety just keeps getting worse. I get really panicky whenever people talk to me and even making eye contact is causing my anxiety to rise . I don't want to be this way. I used to be social just a few months ago. Any tips to make this better?

Hey Adalia,

Since you say that you were social a few months ago, Iím wondering if there is anything that mightíve caused you to develop anxiety since then, maybe a bad or embarrassing situation?

To deal with anxiety in general, itís best to do some deep breathing exercises- deep breath in for 3 seconds and out for 3 seconds. This will help you to feel more relaxed and less panicky.

Try to smile and make eye contact- it may feel awkward to begin with, but after some practice it will become easier.

Also, try to build up your self-esteem, if you have less confidence, by reminding yourself of your positive things. It also helps to remember that even though we think people are judging us, they usually arenít, since they are concentrating on the conversation.

If the anxiety gets worse, it may be a good idea to get some counselling.
