Anxiety and Stress This forum is for seeking advice on anxiety and stress related issues.
Hello. Being in a social environment is tough on me. Typically when I'm with other people, I become very tense and stressed. I guess it's because I was bullied as a kid, so it's hard for me to function properly in a social setting. I want to socialize and talk more, without shutting down or having a cloud over my head all the time. I don't know how though. I've thought of drinking alcohol to help me relax, but I'd rather not be drinking all day just so I can relax a little and talk with people.
Hey there. Have you ever thought about seeking counselling? A therapist could help you with your discomfort in social settings and help you find ways to be comfortable.
Feel free to PM me if you ever need to chat or have questions
Hello ryan, i suggest not to drink alcohol just to help you to relax. i have a friend who have been to alcohol intervention services. he also have anxiety and trying to cope his problem by drinking alcohol without knowing that he already have an alcohol problem his drinking soon became as big of a problem as his anxiety. Although alcohol can temporarily reduce symptoms of social anxiety, alcohol can also increase anxiety, irritability, or depression a few hours later or the next day. Even moderate amounts of alcohol can affect one’s mood and anxiety level.
