Bipolar and anxiety? -
February 20th 2010, 03:18 PM
I was diagnosed with dysthimia and anxiety in my freshman year, and my therapist explained to me that teens who are often diagnosed with that are really bipolar. I've been treated as bipolar, consider myself bipolar, and for the most part the treatment has made a huge difference.
However, I've noticed a lot lately - for the past few months, at least - I've been a lot more anxious than usual. I've had panic attacks in the past, and yesterday I ended up having one. I can track my mood swings, when I'm manic and depressed, but my anxious state is different from both of those. Is it possible that I could be both bipolar and have an anxiety disorder? I'm talking to my therapist about it but I want to know if any of you guys have advice... especially as to how I can deal with my anxiety. |

Hey Becca,
It is possible that you have both anxiety and bipolar but I suggest talking to your doctor to see for sure. As for dealing with your anxiety, find a coping skill that works for you. Some common ones are deep breathing, positive thoughts, and listening to music to distract yourself. Also, maybe ask your therapist if you can try CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) with her. It's really helpful in changing your anxious thoughts into more constructive ones and finding the right things to do when your anxious. PM me if you need anything. Take care, Alessa ![]() |
