Claustrophobia? - May 7th 2010, 02:52 PM

Me, my mum, sister, nan and dad all went shopping in my dad's car earlier. There's just enough seats for all of us (it's quite a small car). I was in the back with my mum and sister. I don't want to sound mean but my mum isn't the smallest person in the world. I felt really closed in and squashed.

I just felt really nervous and wanted to get out. I kept shaking, felt sick and felt like a panic attack was coming on. The only way I felt slightly better was to open the window fully and to take my seat belt off (which is dangerous, I know)

I'm also the same in massive crowds of people. Is this claustrophobia? What could I do to make me less panicky in situations like this?

Yes it does sound like you could be a bit claustrophobic. But I do not know much about this to give good enough advice. Maybe when you feel a bit paniky, try and focus on breathing and maybe just close your eyes (if your sitting down obviously) and just try to forget how your feeling for a bit.

When I feel like that I just really want to get out of the situation :| Like I asked my dad to stop the car so I could stand outside for a bit. I could try closing my eyes next time though
