Bathroom phobia -
August 27th 2010, 11:47 PM
This is really strange and awkward ... but I find it really hard to go to the bathroom when there's someone else in the house who I think might be in earshot. It's not really when I pee, it's when ... I do other stuff.
I've had an ensuite since I was 14 years old and now I'm 19 and having to share a house with 3 other people. I've not grown up having to share a bathroom with anyone. The only way I can go is if it's before I have a shower and the water is running to cover any noise. How do I get over this phobia :| ![]() Sometimes it's better to forget how you feel and remember what you deserve S. M ... still in my heart, forever |

when someone else is in there, casually walk by and see if you can hear them. if you can, then when you're in the bathroom, run the tap until you're finished. if you can't hear them, then you know that they can't hear you.
maybe this will help?

Crazy, I have the exact same problem!
I have to do it before i shower or take a bath to cover the noise as well. I know no one can really hear me but I still get paranoid. So I can't really tell you how to make it better. I have that problem too. I thought I was just wierd.
Usually I turn on the fan or bring in my Nintendo DS because it's really loud. I'm not sure how to actually get over the phobia though, if you're talking about getting rid of it completely. |

well it seems like everyone has this phobia, and their own way to deal with it.
theres nothing to be embarassed about. its personal so its understandable that people are uncomfortable with other people hearing whats going on in there. most likely they can't hear anything, and if they can they probably dont think twice about it. -i still believe,

See, I hate even being heard pee. And well, its easier when everyone is watching TV, but when it comes to commercial time, or it gets very quiet, I hesitate. And public washrooms, I can't pee with other people in. I'll sit in the bathroom until it's all cleared.
I think its relatively normal to not want people to hear you use the bathroom, especially "Number 2" (if you get what I mean). The idea of poop stinking, and being really gross, is probably where the embarrassment factor comes in. People will assume you stunk up the washroom, or whatever else. |

I have this problem also. No matter where I am, I can't go to the bathroom with people in earshot. I'm glad to know that other people have the same problem. I usually just relax, and try to think of different things.

I think a lot more people than you'd think get this. I do too, I know what you mean (: To be honest, it's probably not a big deal as you feel it may be. If anyone else heard anything they probably wouldn't really think anything of it. It's all part of living with people to be honest.

I have the same problem.
I take my iPod and speakers with me and turn the music up loud to drown out any noises. I also can't talk or be talked to when I am going to the toilet. |
