F'in Anxiety Attacks... - September 2nd 2010, 06:10 AM

i'm not really looking for advice or anything i was just on here and i needed to write what's going on to distract myself..
i have frequent anxiety attacks, like.. 2 or 3 a week. they're almost never that severe, but once in a while i get a doozy... like i'm having right now.
i just feel like my body is shutting completely down and my mind is racing and i'm like losing it over here. i know i'll be fine, it'll only last 15-20 minutes or so but geez... i hate the feeling ya know?
shaking crying burning face cold creepy feeling everywhere else, my heart's firing along at a bajillion miles an hour, i keep choking on my breath, like everything hurts like i pulled every muscle... i can't stop moving but it hurts like a bitch, i can't talk, i know i look like a maniac i'd prolly freak my family out if they came in right now
oh lordy, i'm bugging out, these are never fun, but i know it's going away, i know it is, i just gotta wait, use this friggin computer screen to distract myself..

wow, lol i know that reading that makes me seem crazy but i guess i am, eh whatever, if you read this then thanks if not oh well haha

anybody else get these every once in a while?

Hi David,

I don't know whether your writing style is indicative of how you actually feel about these, but it seems like you have an incredibly positive outlook on them. (: The whole idea of "well, it stinks now but it's going to be over soon" is a GREAT way to look at these. It will keep you optimistic, which is absolutely key in any mind-related issue.

Now, I personally do not have anxiety, but I teach swim lessons, and actually one of my students this past summer DID get anxiety attacks, and I was around her for a few of them in the time we spent together learning how to swim! This is just one example of a time when I've indirectly experienced that, but it's probably the most recent, and thus the first one that comes to mind.

Have you ever looked into getting professional help? I do realize that you have a GREAT outlook, but it surely couldn't hurt to get yourself checked up on every once in a while to make sure everything's going okay. At best, they'd be able to prescribe you to some sort of treatment (either medicinal, or a type of therapy) that could really help you to reduce these anxiety attacks. Worth a try, right? Anyway, I admire your outlook, and I hope things continue to improve for you.

Take good care of yourself.
