Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - January 30th 2012, 03:47 AM

Hey guys! I hope that everyone's been having a great day so far!
Today, I wanted to bring up a topic that has been frustrating me for a pretty long time and wanted some suggestions or any kind of feedback.

Since the age of 14, I have been suffering from PTSD. (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) The cause of this was due to 1) The failure of my dad's business, 2) "Fleeing away" from my hometown due to the failure of my dad's business, and 3) By being sent to a boarding school immediately after both reasons 1 and 2.

After being sent off to boarding school for high school, I suffered with the feeling of being "detached," and "emotionally numb" for an entire year. However, after adapting to my new life, I no longer suffered from PTSD for another 3 years. After graduating high school, I had to leave all my friends and my new life behind, which led me to suffer from PTSD again! In addition to that, when I returned home, I faced physical abuse from my mother, which worsened the case for me. Living with family again has been extremely stressful and hasn't allowed me to heal in any way... I have been living with family for around half a year now, and I feel as if there has been no progress made as I still feel both "detached," and "emotionally numb."

Although I am aware that in order to heal, I need to reach out for help... however, due to a language barrier, I am unable to seek professional help, and my mother is also an obstacle to me getting any sort of help.

All-in-all, I wanted to know whether leaving this problem unsolved could lead to more problems? I would love to hear any sort of feedback from you all!

Thanks in advance

Hmmm...my mom has worked with some cases like this before. And she says sometimes its just good to take a break from your family like, move out keep minimal contact give yourself some time to heal. Your mOther can abuse u Physically but it's not like she can still keeP u from moving out. That may just bethe only way tO get help

My first question is who diagnosed you with PTSD?
My second question is where do you live?

It's hard to really help without knowing those two things. Here if you speak a different language you can request a translator in almost any medical facilaty (all specialists including mental health have this service here).

Rick brings up a good point, as well as the fact that some doctors/mental health professionals are multilingual. This means, depending on what language you speak, you might be able to find a professional who can speak your language.

But, knowing a bit more about the situation would help us to help you out.

Hey there. Like the above users have said, knowing that litte bit more information might be help us be able to help you that little bit more. Saying that therapy can help a lot of people who have ptsd or who generally struggle with things that they have been through in the past. Talking things over and learning to change your thought process so that you can view your past experiences in a different and perhaps a more positive way could be really beneficial. However, for some people therapy and taking isn't the best way around the situation. Having a social life, meeting up with friends, doing hobbies, engaging in sports, persueing your carer, moving out and setting yourself dreams and goals and actually making them reality. Getting out there, finding yourself and being you and living your life now is sometimes the best way through it. I think you really need to think about what you feel is best for you. Barriers like language difficulties can often be broken so don't let that stand in the way if you decide you want professional help. I hope this helps a little. Jessie
