Spicing up your room. - August 12th 2010, 10:26 PM

My room is sooo boring. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions to spice it up a bit? Even just small stuff, to make it look more exciting. Any suggestions are good.

Put up posters. Get a collage of pictures together on the wall.Try reorganizing it! Move stuff around. Put some candles in there or softly play music all the time so when you walk in you hear music and smell candles! Get a new comforter. Get a rug. Any difference you will be able to see and if you do a bunch of little changes it will seem like a whole new room!

Re: Spicing up your room. - August 12th 2010, 11:53 PM

I love fairy lights, and dangling things. I have so much crap in my room. My friends have all drawn stuff on my mirror which is smothered in necklaces and crap hanging from it, loads of different coloured fluffy fairy lights, posters are always nice and easy. Disco ball hanging, I have a pirate flag

I have so much stuff so my room never looks quite boring. Everythings covered in crap. Like my curtain rail also doubles up as a storage place for scarfs, the doors of my wardrobes hold my various jackets, my main door is covered in cardigans and dressing gowns, shelves of books and stuff.

I'm not saying buy loads of crap, but just...yeah.

Charity shops are great for odd little bits if you want to spruce it up a bit

It depends on whether you like to be messy or not
I'm horrifically messy Much to my parent's chagrin, but I hang stuff everywhere. I have fairy lights, scarves, beads, ribbons - I think I unconsciously collect dangly things that look pretty - even clothing tags that look cool. I have stick on mirrors on one wall that act like an uber noticeboard where I cram various interesting bits of paper like concert tickets and photos, and I'm notorious for buying pretty bowls and filling them with buttons, broken jewellery, sequins....

I'm probably a klepto, after reading that...O_o

Just a hop, skip and a jump.

You could paint some stencil-type drawings on the wall or get the same effect in a less permanet way with decals.

You could paint your ceiling.

You could get some awesome throw pillows.

You could get a crazy rug.

Best ideas I've got.

Re: Spicing up your room. - August 14th 2010, 01:18 AM

I was where you are at now about a year ago. So I told my mom to get some red and black paint. My room is now a dark wine red with black trim. I have black and white posters of movies stars around my room and white rope lights in my room (because I am scared of the dark)

It really depends on how you want to spice it up. If you want it to be more colorful. Buy a whole new bed set with popping colors.
By wall decor, like those butterfly things that you put on the wall. If you don't want butterflies then find something that suits you better.
Drill holes in your celings and go and buy a few windchimes and hang them up in your room.
Add a large mirror to your room. Not only will it help you check yourself but it gives your room a whole new feeling and it actually makes your room feel larger.
Paint your trim a wacky color.
Get a light fixture that just isn't your normal lamp. Maybe a chandeller or a wacky one, depending on what kind of spicing your trying to go for.

Here are some links of some ideas that you could do. That I have already suggested. But just to add pictures to words.

Paint it! Or get your friends round to all do a little bit of things that'll remind you of them.

I also used to like to run string right around the room and use it as like a clothes line, except I'd pin up old photos and doodles and concert tickets, etc

i think that you should probably paint your walls.
covering up the white is already adding more color to your room.
maybe a green? blue and green go well together :]

or if you can't paint it... i think that the collage of pictures would do well.
or if your an artist or have artist friends...
create or ask for a painting. :]
or get a white board or chalk board and...
have your friends come over.. & you guys can draw on it
[you can do the same with a mirror...]

my room is yellow with blue and purple squares;
and there is blue & yellow rope lights on the wall...
and i have mini lanterns on the ceiling going across my desk :]

Re: Spicing up your room. - August 18th 2010, 05:16 PM

I randomly decided a couple of weeks ago I wanted my room to change so I rearranged all the furniture and took lots of stuff off the walls (be REALLY careful with pins because I managed to cut under my fingernail on both thumbs when taking pins out the wall )
I picked a pretty font on Microsoft Word, made it big and traced the letters onto paper to make stencils so I can put lyrics and quotes on my wall.
Something that can be fun that I worked on for months is just to have one wall dedicated to complete and utter randomness. I had flyers, tickets, pictures, notes, drawings, things I'd written, cards, a bag from Millie's Cookies, 2 empty cans of Mountain Dew, cards, even a birthday candle. Just put anything and everything and when you look at it really closely, you can just see how many memories you have in that one bit of space.
I hope you get your room the way you want it. Just do what you want with it, go wild and have fun. It'll look great whatever you do!

Best advice I can give is if you have alot of knicknacks, set them out for display! Like Natsumi said, if you just have random objects sitting out, you'll see all the memories those objects have behind them. Make sure they are good memories though, because you don't want your room to be a space that creates negative feelings. Hope this helped.

Re: Spicing up your room. - August 19th 2010, 04:43 AM

Personally, I have a mirror with a funky frame on my one wall, a big movie poster from Bram Stoker's "Dracula" on my other wall, along with a barbed wire and leather rose my ex bought me, and an old calendar (without the numbers) of Jack Skellington. Then my floor has a small purple fuzzy throw-mat over the original tan rug. And I find keeping my closet doors open makes my room more interesting too.

The suggestions above are great! Actually, my one friend had a white wall, and she bought some crayons, had everyone draw and write on her wall. My ex, who was really good at drawing dragons, put a dragon's head on her wall.

Re: Spicing up your room. - August 19th 2010, 05:01 AM

Im moving this week to a house in which i will get two rooms to myself in my bedroom i plan on covering the wall (opposite of my bed,) which has no windows and is blank, im going to cover it in cardboard and ill let people draw on it/ doodle/ sign it for me when they're over. (: i also love stuffed animals and have a plastic chain that dangles from the ceiling that i clip all of them too. sounds odd but its really cute (: and i get to paint it... colors that are cool colors i always found to seem very nice in my room. posters, knick-knacks are good too. (: i have a big mirror that i enjoy writing on too

A good color scheme with blue is light blue, dark purple, and black.
If you have people sign your walls, don't use sharpie because it's oil based and latex paint won't paint over it later, so you'll have to sand it off/strip the paint. (I'm screwed.)
Aqua and red also look good together.

Becca. :]
