Military Question, I has -
September 19th 2010, 06:23 PM
To spare you my "I have no direction in my life" speech, I'm considering going into the military. I'm not in the best physical shape, in fact far from it, but I'm wondering...how would I be able to get into boot camp? Is there a requirement or something like that I should be concerned about? Do I have to sign up for the military in order to go into boot camp? Any other advice you wanna give me about boot camp?
Reason why I want to get into boot camp is because I can't get fit by myself. It's not about me getting fit. I really want to get into the military to better my life and find myself. Appreciate some advice! |

Yes, you have to sign up for the military in order to go to boot camp. The lucky thing is... Between the time that you sign up and the time you get sent to boot camp, most recruiting centers will have a weekly fitness session for you to go to. My fiance is going into the navy, and meets every Wednesday from 5:30 til about 7 to go over basic stuff (such as marching maneuvers, terms you need to know, etc.) as well as time for fitness training.
Go over to the recruiting office closest to you and tell them about your situation and ask them what they would have available. Heck, you could even ask the recruiter you talk to to come with you to the gym and workout with you or show you what to do. If you want to go into the military, they'll work with you. If you're not ready for boot camp, they'll help you get ready for it. The requirements for each branch of the military are very different. Air Force requires higher ASVAB scores and less physically. Army and Marines both require less as far as the ASVAB is concerned, but a higher level of fitness - bare in mind that Army and Marines are the ones on the front lines. Navy requires a pretty good balance of both. The best thing to do is to go to the recruiting office and talk to each of the branches. For the most part, they're very down to Earth and cut straight to the chase. But if you're not serious about it, they don't want to waste their time. (How do I know this? I went with Eric when he went to talk to the recruiters. VERY informational.) “Don't get too comfortable with who you are at any given time. You may miss the opportunity to become who you want to be." ~Jon Bon Jovi ![]() |
