Question I've stopped singing - October 23rd 2010, 05:59 PM

I love singing and I used to sing all the time but ever since I got pregnant and everything went wrong (see my thread in the pregnancy and childcare forum) I have stopped singing and stopped listening to music. It's like there isn't any point in me singing because now I know I'm never gonna get anywhere... I want to feel happy enough to sing and feel passionate about it. What should I do?

I fall in love...
I do things I shouldn't do...
I have my heart broken again and again...
I am a risk taker!

Singing is a great way to express yourself and to boost your confidence and mood. Lots of people are good at singing, but they never go anywhere with it. I have not seen your other thread so I'm not sure what your situation is, but if you want to get somewhere with your singing, then anything is possible. You just need to believe in yourself. A talent for singing is something that we are blessed with.

Maybe replace your singing skills with writing, and maybe write songs. Then when you decide you want to go back to singing, you can sing your own songs. I really don't think that you should give up singing though, because it is a great talent to have!!

And I will take you in my arms, and hold you right where you belong.

I definitely agree with this. A lot of people have amazing voices, but they don't go anywhere with it. Still, it's a great way to relieve stress and make you feel good about yourself. (I know it does that for me .) I used to want to be a famous singer and wanted to go far with my voice but my dreams have changed course . However, I still sing for fun. In the car, in my room when no one is around, etc. Maybe you could join a local musical theater group or choir (I have done both and they're very fun!). I find that singing at all, even if it's not getting me anywhere, makes me really happy and boosts my mood.
I haven't read your other thread, but who knows? If you keep working at it, and you really want it, then your singing might take you very far. Anything is possible.
Take care and hang in there. x

Sing for fun and to express yourself for now and maybe in the future you might be able to take it further.
