But being praised is a good thing? At least to most people. Do you not want people to give you credit or recognition when you've done something right?

Bad people attract bad attention and although that may sound appealing, it might not turn out to be all that nice. You don't want to spend time with the wrong people and end in a bad, not in the sense that you want, situation because things like that could haunt you for the rest of your life especially if this is only a phase that you'll grow out of.

Being good and being praised is much better even if you don't feel that it is.

Good and bad are absolutely relative terms. Keep in mind that you are pursuing to embody a subjective entity. No one can give a definite answer as to what is sufficient.

Be yourself. That is the only path that is guaranteed to lead to a greater sense of self-comfort at the end of the day.

I for one would kill if only to be praised by the people who I want to praise me, my parents.

It really doesn't suck. Being "Bad" isn't a good thing.
