Salsa

I just recently got into salsa dancing. It combines three things I like; Latin music, physical contact, and getting pretty girls to follow my lead; so it's a pretty natural fit. Plus the clubs have a really friendly atmosphere and a more or less even gender split. Any other THers into this?

At the moment my evenings are pretty packed, so I doubt I'd have the time to learn anything else. In the future, though, sure. Probably some other Latin style, because I've got less interest in ballroom stuff.

I haven't taken dance lessons in a long time, but it definitely sounds interesting. I agree with Sylvie too, I never would have guessed you would enjoy salsa dancing

I've done salsa!! I used to compete in Ballroom Dancing when I was in high school. I was an international champion on the east coast for Rumba and Swing dancing! It was in Canada, and included obviously Canadians, USA, and Mexico. I took lessons every week. It was fun!! I learned rumba, swing, waltz, tango, foxtrot, salsa, and lots more. I already knew the polka, coming from a big polish family. :P
Aside from ballroom dancing, I've taken 13 years of tap, jazz, and ballet, 6 of those were in a Ballet company, 3 of pointe, 2 of burlesque, 2 of line dancing, 4 of hip hop, and 3 of belly dancing. I love to dance, if you couldn't tell! lol I stopped all but Ballroom, Burlesque, Hip Hop, and Belly Dancing after I turned 17. Now that I'm 20, I'd like to try Pole dancing (for FUNNNN, not a job. lol) Heard it tones the body a LOT

Tch, that's part of the point of salsa. You saying you don't want to be sleazy?

I used to do Salsa, I loved it. It is one of my favorite kinds of dances, I also find it to be the best of the Latin kinds of dancing. Swing dance is also a lot of fun, ballroom can be fun but it isn't as fun. Contra dancing is also a lot of fun, plus you get to dance with every girl in the room.

Quick question for those in the know. Where do your eyes go? Keeping them locked during all the face-to-face bits gets... weird.

I got into salsa dancing after a date took me to an upscale cuban nightclub. It probably helped I grew up in South Florida with a heavy latin influence and appreciation for the music, culture, and food. Salsa dancing is awesome IMO. It's kinda like 3 simple steps and you build from there. When dancing though, my eyes i'll wander from looking at my partner, to lookin' down at our feet moving for a moment or just lookin' down for a moment, to looking around the room, but it depends on the environment for what's appropriate tho.
