I'm writing my PN about my attempt..

So we started Personal Narratives the other day, and I decided to write about my suicide attempt last year.

I O.D.'ed, and alot of what happened is kind of blurred together. I remember the doctor telling me how much aspirin has to be in your system before it kills you, but I don't remember the number.

Does anybody know?

I also know I was way over that number, and was ten minutes away from death. Scary, now at least. Anyways, I can't remember what the number is, and it's really aggravating me. I've looked online, but I can't find it anywhere!

Anyone's help would really be appreciated.

Are you sure you want to tell this story? It's very likely it'll go on display if it's good quality and almost certain you'd have to read excerpts from it.

As for a number I do not know it is probably somewhere between 1 and 2 dozen? Although your age may have been a factor - aspirin can cause Reye's Syndrome in children

Gosh, you're braver than me. I think you should definitely make sure that this is what you want to write about first, because as Lee said if it's good it will no doubt be shared with other people.

I'm sorry that i can't help you with the numbers, perhaps you could talk to a pharmacist? i'm sure they'll be happy to help you all they can.

What is a PN? Is it anything to do with University/college or something that will be recorded? If so - don't. It is very unlikely that at 15 you will be able to write about such an experience with the depth and understanding necessary for it to look good. Brave move and fine if you're alright with other people knowing, but your school WILL note it and it may well be mentioned in your University/College recommendation letter. I seriously would not take the gamble. If you tried to kill yourself there will have been a huge load of reasons why you felt that way, perhaps take one of those reasons and talk about that rather than directly your attempt, it might even be more deep and meaningful than describing an attempt, because really an attempt isn't particuarly deep or meaningful, it's just an act that says you've had enough. The reasons are far more deep and interesting.

Oh, just to add -- a doctor would never tell a patient how many tablets they have to take to kill themselves, especially a suicidal one. Google may be more productive.

I'd say write about something else. For one, the school isn't just going to let it fly without giving a shit. They're going to inquire about it and depending on how much and if they offer a school psychologist, you may get to see them, and all in all, it could lead to one big mess.
