Question Part-time job - June 22nd 2013, 02:58 AM

I'm going to get a part-time job when I turn probably at a convenience store, pizza-pizza, KFC... High school will end at 2:30 PM and I'm only allowed to stay up to 9:00 PM. But the question is how many hours should I take because I'm going to save up building a $4000 gaming PC and my mom wants me to still study and all that.

The tongue has no bones, but is strong enough to break a heart.

Before applying for any jobs, I recommend keeping track of how much spare time you have on any given day, after getting everything else done (ex. homework, chores, [ideally] 8 hours of sleep). Also think about activities that occur less frequently (such as hanging out with friends or having to spend additional time on a class project). Finally, think about how much free time you need to yourself (introverts generally need more time to themselves than extroverts). After you've kept track of how much free time you have (and on which days), and after you've factored in those other less frequent activities, you'll have a better sense of how much time you can devote to a part-time job. If you still have doubts, you can always start off on the lower or higher end hours-wise, then work your way up or down until you reach a comfortable level.

If you're only allowed to stay up till 9 pm, you may have some issues. A lot of shifts do not end till 10 or 11 o'clock. I don't recommend staying up that late but I did it in high school. You may want to ask if you can stay up later on Friday and Saturday nights because that will help out a lot. I would ask about being allowed to stay up to at least 10:00 when you take a job so you can have your shift end at 9.
