Re: random question - October 12th 2013, 01:30 AM

I have never been homeschooled before as I attended school starting from nursery all the way until leaving secondary school at 16. So I was wondering, what's it like to be homeschooled? How does it work? Do you get a lot of work to do or is the workload similar to being at school?

That's your self-esteem and self-worth talking. The chances are that they'll just wonder why there's someone younger than 18 attending college. The fact that they don't know you means they couldn't ever determine that you're afreak and even if they did know you, they wouldn't think you're a freak either. Because you're not.

Re: random question - October 12th 2013, 01:33 AM

I'm homeschooled, I take classes online.

Oh, and Sarah, it depends on what school you attend and whether or not you are online or your parents do it; as well as requirements for your school and state. I take online courses and they are completely self paced. I finished freshman year in three months. I'm the "go and get it done" kind of person, so that's why I finished so quickly.

cassie is right, it really depends. i like to think of my schooling as "eclectic". i take classes with other home schooled kids, and college classes, and sometimes private classes. ive never done online classes though

Yeah, it really does depend on the school and the state. Like, some states require records and some don't. It's all the same though, as in you need a lot of self discipline to get through it. It's very independent. But, there are actually a lot of social aspects to it, surprisingly. As Byleigh mentioned, you can take classes with other students; there's also meetings and groups, clubs and such. I even have a graduation!

My buddy used to be home-schooled. I can't remember him ever saying it's bad...

I'm homeschooled currently! Only going back to standard school next year for senior year/Year 13

I love it, only problem is people think I'm automatically either really stupid or ridiculously smart haha. I finished your equivalent of junior year in 4mths.

Re: random question - October 13th 2013, 06:51 AM

It is ridiculous, I try and be the complete opposite of any stereotype around other people (particularly those I haven't known very long) as it makes people think that maybe not all homeschoolers are shy, socially awkward, really smart, quiet, too sheltered and Christian. Although I am all of those things naturally (although the really smart is debatable lol) apart from too sheltered, even when I was in public school.

I go crazy when people think I don't get out of the house. It makes me want to list all the things I do apart from schoolwork. I have a job, youth group, leadership, piano lessons, church, horse riding . . . yeah . . . sure I don't get out of the house . . .

Re: random question - October 15th 2013, 10:41 PM

If I have children, I will home school them till about the 6th grade. I'll require them to do activities outside of the home like join YMCA teams and take music lessons. After sixth grade they will have the option of continuing 2 more years or joining the public school system. At high school, they can either try for scholarships for a private school, join the public high school, or take college classes for credit.

My friend gets home schooled, she seems to enjoy it and has no plans to return to school but I think she wants to go to college.
