My dream job - March 11th 2014, 01:45 AM

Well I have wanted to join the fire service for many years, since I was like five or six. However, every time I apply I must seem to be going nowhere and I never even seem to be getting to the interview stage and when I ring them up to ask where I went wrong in the application form they never ever give me a straight forward answer. I'm not the fittest of people anymore and I did give up on the fire service. But then a new TV series called the Smoke started and t has rekindled my passion of joining the fire service and wanting to save peoples lives, I'm going to start working out again and going on a stricker diet so that I can shed a few pounds. I have sent an application off to the fire service recently and I hope this time I finally get to the interview stage, even just getting that far would be decent for me. If I don't keep applying now I will never get it. But the government are telling the fire fighters that they aren't allowed to recruit anybody new which means I might not even get in. I hate our government! Their stupid damn cuts that are destroying our country.
I hope I do get my dream job, would mean the world to me :-)

Have you fulfilled the educational requirements you need to become a firefighter? I'm pretty sure you need to be a certified EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Although I'm not sure if this is the case in the UK. Either way, I would check into all the requirements you need to meet to have this career. You could look them up online or talk to someone who would know them. Make sure you've done all that's necessary in order to be considered for employment, and I think that will definitely improve your chances.

You also might want to consider doing some volunteer work. You can put volunteer work along with work experience on an application and this will prove that you have a passion for helping those in your community, which is a major aspect of being a firefighter.

I really hope that things work out for you and that you're able to be successful in the career you're interested in

I am fully qualified to be a firefighter :-). However, the government have put a stop to the hiring people because of cuts and stuff so I will have to wait even longer I have done loads of voluntary work which I have put on CVs and applications, its just so difficult to get a job in the UK at the moment, we have a government that is screwing everything right up for the poor people of the country, its alright for them as they have mony. What about the families that have no jobs or money. They are even trying to take away our free hospital treatment which is all wrong.
