Angry Art career stress... - May 15th 2014, 01:41 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I'm not really sure if this belongs here or not...

I got rubbish grades leaving school, too scared to go back to a classroom environment to get any other kind of qualification and I'm trying to rely on my art alone to try and get somewhere... I did manage to get an apprenticeship at a tattoo parlour, and also one or two paid commissions on the side. But I don't know if I can do any of this, I get told I'm good or whatever but I dismiss everything I hear as petty lies, and can hardly get through a picture without having a barrage of abuse flying around my head about how terrible it is and it leads me to get frustrated and harm myself. I don't really know what I expect to get out of writing this... maybe I just wanted to tell someone at least.. Ugh.

Hi there, Pin! Sorry for such a late response!

That's awesome that you got an apprenticeship! You should be really proud of yourself because that really shows how awesome you are. Sometimes, we are our own biggest critics. I know it's hard to accept compliments, but those people are telling you that because they really believe in you. Keep working your hardest and learn from everyone else. You'll just keep getting better than you already are. I'm sorry that this makes you feel the need to harm yourself. Maybe you could check out our alternatives page located at the top of the self harm forum when you feel an urge. I hope that things get better for you.
