My grades.. - November 16th 2014, 03:59 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of suicide, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread therefore might not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I only have myself to blame - I got so behind in my courses that I'm failing, and I only have 3 more weeks left in the semester to bring my grades up.

I sent an email to my teachers to see if I could still pass this semester if I get full points on everything. If not, well then, I might as well stop trying to play catch up, right?

You see, I've been in school for four years now with no degree - I am qualified to get my associates degree in December. I got a letter from financial aid that if I didn't graduate in December I would lose my funding and thus would have to drop out of school.

Plus since I'm losing my job, I have nothing to fall back on. I'm currently putting in applications everywhere hoping that someone will hire me.

I just don't know what to do with myself, this whole thing has made me suicidal.

By how much are you failing? Can you get support from a therapist/doctor/whomever else in negotiation with your teachers? Besides doing well on the remaining graded work, could there be an opportunity to do some kind of extra work as well? The idea of this isn't necessarily to give you "more work", but bearing in mind that most assignments during the semester are designed to help reinforce concepts or skills that will come up in the final evaluation. In that sense, it's work that you would be doing anyways in preparation for what's coming up.

Take a deep breath. It's challenging and stressful, but you do still have an opportunity to speak with your teachers and work something out. And even in the worst case scenario, you might have to work for a while to save up money in order to go back, but you'll still be able to finish the degree. The years of work that you've done up to now isn't going to be wasted.

Are there any places around that offer resources to youth seeking employment?

I asked my teachers if there were any way to bring my grades up and they said yes, as long as I scored high on the rest of my assignments. That's a big load off there.

As far as jobs go, the counseling center that I go to also has a vocational program that is going to help me with finding a job.
