Fired After Three Shifts. - December 21st 2014, 03:09 AM

When my cousin was visiting Australia, he got a job about a month in working in a restaurant washing the dishes. The problem was, the dishwashing was done at absolutely maniacal paces. I was asked to jump in when he left the country. Having done no work before, I tried my best but unfortunately I was not fast enough at the job, so after three shifts (two weeks), the management officer asked me for my number and that he would call me back should he need me.

He never did. It's only been one week but obvious that's two whole services, he has clearly found someone else.

I have been sacked without being sacked. I do appreciate however, the opportunity the chefs gave me and the $200 financial refuel I got. However, this leaves me in an interesting position. I have to find another job.

Now, should I mention my other job on my resume or is it immaterial? If I do, should I mention that I am done or just say "current" until the management of the restaurant calls me back to actually fire me. And thirdly, how do I even explain a liquidation after two weeks in the interview?

I mean did you sign any papers to verify your leaving?

If not, then you are still employed on some type of leave or hold so It's okay to put it on your resume as your current job. However make sure you understand that they may contact them so be sure to clarify your situation in the interview sage.

This sorta happened to me... I was workin some crappy job part-time and to appease the full time workers (cash/hours-wise), they just stopped calling me in to work.
I'd say its probably a rule of thumb to never mention a job on a resume if you didn't last at least a month. I'm certainly not mentioning that job.

Since you weren't there very long I don't see why you would need to mention it.

I would not mention anything less than a month on a resume. Also, if you were let go (which you may or may not have been), then it would not be beneficial to bring up the job in an interview.

Since he said he'll call you if he needs you, it sounds a bit like you're bank staff. While you are technically employed with them, it's on an as-needed basis so you don't get regular work and can't predict if or when you get any more. Most companies I've heard of will take people off their bank or supply list after about a year of having no work. I think you'd be okay to say that you're working with them on a supply basis until you're told otherwise. You haven't been fired yet so until you are, if you are, it's okay to consider yourself employed!

He may call you, or may be not, in fact it doesn't matter. You say that you are not fast enough at the job. I think you have 2 options:
1)try to find another job
2)improve your skills on this one.

You tried this job and it wasn't what you want, so you should move on and try another one! We live in the world of possibilities, you should use them

Re: Fired After Three Shifts. - January 6th 2015, 11:50 PM

I left after three shifts at a pub, I was terrible at serving drinks

I had to mention it on job applications when they asked for employment history otherwise I'd be lying. My next job didn't ask about it.

Take as long as you need.
