What to do with my plays - January 21st 2015, 10:52 PM

So I've been dabbling as a playwright a lot lately... I've written two plays and I'm on my 3rd. I have no background in theatre whatsoever. Anyway, I wrote the first because I was bored, but I realized it was good, so I wrote the next one and realized it was good. So what do I do if I actually want to do something with this talent (is that too early to say? Ive only gotten a few reviews, all good)? I've considered sending it to my old high school English teacher, who is also in charge of theatre. Would that be a good way to start?

I think that is a wonderful way to start. Showing your writing to
someone with experience and knowledge is great. They will be
able to help and guide you properly in becoming a good playwright.
You could also post it on social media such as Facebook,
Tumblr, or possibly on YouTube or some place to share
writing?
The more you share and publicize your writing, the
more likely you are to come across someone who can
help you aspire your goal/dream of becoming a playwright.
Start with small steps and I believe that sharing your plays with
your former high school English teacher is a good way to go.
Hope this helps and wish you all the very best!

I always feel kinda paranoid actually that someone would steal the play. I'm not sure about sharing it on social media. What would happen if I walked into somebodies office and said, hey, look at this play. Is that plausible?

You could walk into someone's office, but I suspect that they'd kick you out pretty quickly (sorry). What you could do is develop a relationship with either a playwright or director. Get to know them, then approach for advice. The other thing would be to look at local community theater groups. They have people with skills, and also may be interested in running your play. Either way, start by relationship building.

Well there are two aspects of plays-the written and the performance. To get the written play out there you can try to get yours published in magazines and enter them in contests. As for performance, you can try getting some actors to perform and maybe video tape it. What the everyone else said is good suggestions.

Did not think of videoing a play - particularly if it's fairly minimalist, could be good exposure?
