Pushing customer service for answers? - February 26th 2015, 08:25 AM

Kinda out of the way. This concerns an interaction I have with the Customer Service of a certain MMO that I play. I have invested three years and several hundred dollars into this account, as well as building friendships and being a part of a community. So the issue is bit personally bias for me.

I recently got a (thankfully) temporary ban on my MMO account. When I asked customer service, they told me that I was banned for " excessive real money trading spam on the game". This is concerning to me because I personally NEVER use real money trading and am morally opposed to it. So, the fact that they are listing my account as doing such activities says that my possible my account was compromised and I need to step up my security.

The other possibility is that someone(s) in the game maliciously reported me for gold-selling (Really easy to do, right click the name, report spam). I do occasionally post a fleet/guild advertisement in the major social zones. As a fleet leader, I am trying to recruit into my fleet. My standard fleet ad does have a URL to a forums that I run specifically for my fleet. You know, so people can check it out at their leisure, read the rules and see if they want to join. I try to space out the ads to once every 15 minutes, but there are still some people who are vehemently against fleet ads in all forms.

The third possibility is that a GM bot saw the URL format in chat and banned me outright.

All of these are really concerning possibilities to me. It either means that my own security and actions need to be fixed, or that there is a real flaw in how the game handles third party links. So, within the e-mails to customer service, I have asked for the specific link that got me banned. Literally so i can diagnose this myself. However, they have been formal and giving me canned responses "You were banned for linking third party URLs in game."

So, my question is, even though I recently got my account back, thankfully unharmed, I still want to know more about what happened. Do I press customer service MORE, in an attempt to find out more, but at the risk of raising suspicion and possibly getting banned again? Or do I drop it, and hope that I don't trip the system AGAIN without knowledge and get my account, and all these years of hard work and money taken away from me?
